If Each GOP Candidate Were a Conservative News Site, Which Would They Be?

If you were a tree, what kind of a tree would you be? I’d be a weeping willow because… sigh. More important question about personifying inanimate objects: If the 15 or so Republican presidential candidates were conservative news websites, which ones would they be?

Let’s attempt to answer that question because it’s Monday and we’re all in for a long 497 days until Election Day 2016.

Note: We’d make a companion piece for the Democrats and liberal news sites, but there are only four options. So here goes: Hillary Clinton is the Huffington Post; Bernie Sanders would be Democracy Now!; Martin O’Malley would be ThinkProgress; and Lincoln Chafee would be… oh man, is there even a site out there that would fit the profile?

And now the Republican field (yes, some haven’t announced yet)…

Donald Trump – Breitbart

Think of the most common words used to describe Donald Trump: “Blowhard,” “obnoxious,” “clownish,” “troll,” “windbag,” “xenophobic.” Sounds exactly like the preponderance of material coming out of Breitbart, right? (It also doesn’t hurt that Trump’s unofficial stenographer is the site’s most prized reporter.)

Marco Rubio – IJReview

Did you know Senator Rubio is young(ish), likes hip hop, uses hashtags, and does clever non-old-person things? He’s one of the cool kids, you guys. #YOLO.

Ted Cruz – The Right Scoop

If you are a loyal reader of The Right Scoop, you’d come away thinking literally every word uttered by Sen. Ted Cruz is “FANTASTIC” (all-caps required). No, really… take a look. With that in mind, it seems like the most appropriate fit.

Lindsey Graham – Washington Free Beacon

Because Sen. Graham loves to troll; because he’s never met a war he didn’t like; and because hedespises Rand Paul. Oh, but he also knows it’s all about taking down Hillary Clinton in the end.

Mike Huckabee – NewsBusters

If there’s a gay person kissing on your television, a voluptuous woman singing about sex on your radio, or a Hollywood celebrity saying something about Republicans or Christianity, Mike Huckabee is there to sermonize against it.

Scott Walker – NRO

Slightly wonkier than the rest, slightly more buttoned-up, classically conservative in the William F. Buckley tradition, and definitely opposed to unions.

Rick Santorum – TheBlaze

TheBlaze founder Glenn Beck once described former Sen. Rick Santorum as “the next George Washington,” and while it’s not a perfect fit, both the site and the candidate have an obvious appeal to “Real American” religious conservatives who homeschool their children and are terrified of the coming apocalypse.

Bobby Jindal – The Daily Signal

Because he got in the race way too late and no one really cares.

Jeb Bush – The Weekly Standard

Because anything with the name “Bush” or “Cheney” would get the thumbs up from Bill Kristol & Co.

George Pataki – Power Line

Think of it this way: Years ago, Power Line had its time in the conservative spotlight when it broke the scandal that ended Dan Rather‘s CBS News career. Now, though? No one cares.

Ben Carson – WorldNetDaily

Because the theory that prison sex proves homosexuality is definitively and always a “choice” is something you’d expect to see next to an article questioning President Obama’s birth certificate or a column suggesting the Sandy Hook school massacre might’ve been staged.

Carly Fiorina – The Daily Caller

Because, yes, the Daily Caller is a staunchly conservative website that projects a tough-guy attitude, but occasionally it just wants to be a beautiful, strong woman.

Chris Christie – Wall Street Journal

Well-moneyed, at one time considered the mainstream, and decidedly east coast when it comes to politics. Also because Jeb Bush was already taken.

Rand Paul – The Federalist

Just like Sen. Paul, conservative website The Federalist has “a viewpoint that rejects the assumptions of the media establishment” and will sometimes surprise you by seeking to engage ideological opponents.

Rick Perry – RedState

The former Texas governor is as red state as they come. Sure, any of the southern state Republicans could embody the sensibilities of Erick Erickson‘s RedState blog, but the devoutly Christian Gov. Perry has had a long, close relationship with the site. This doesn’t hurt either.

 brought the house down at the Western Conservative Summit in Colorado this evening, leaving delegates in hysterics, and lamenting the fact that as Gohmert himself said tonight: You can’t be bald if you want to be President.

Gohmert’s tour-de-force followed Dr. Ben Carson, who declared himself as the anti-politician politician. Carson talked at length about the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage judgment, stating that Congress would have to act to balance the parts of the government that have got “too big for their britches.”

Carson said that the left-wing agenda in America had become more about dividing people than uniting them: “They want us to fight each other. Why would we want to destroy each other, when we have radical Islamic jihadists trying to destroy us? Why would we help them?”

He said a President should be using the “bully pulpit… instead of inflaming the situation,” as many felt Barack Obama did last night by illuminating the White House with the rainbow flag.

America is “Judeo Christian in its origin, even if the President doesn’t think so,” he continued. 

Carson discussed America’s “$211 trillion” fiscal gap, saying his exploratory committee had 200,000 new donors in recent months. 

“Our government is designed for the people, not for the political class,” he concluded..

But the audience were left in stitches after the appearance of Texas

Gohmert made serious points, repeating his statements yesterday that two of the Supreme Court judges who opined in favor of same-sex marriage were compromised and biased, given thatJustices Ginsburg and Kagan had been conducting same-sex marriages themselves in states where it was already legal. They should have recused themselves from the case, he said.

Ben Carson Dodges CNN’s LGBT Question: Can’t We Talk About Something ‘More Important?’

In an interview on Fox News Wednesday night,Ben Carson said he doesn’t equate gay rights with civil rights because he’s never seen a “straight only” water fountain. So, when he joined CNN’s Brianna Keilar by phone Thursday afternoon, she had a very simple question for the Republican presidential candidate: “Do you think that gay Americans are discriminated against, that they face discrimination?”

Over the next two minutes, Keilar asked him some variation of that question at least six more times. At first Carson said he didn’t want to talk about the “gay issue” except to repeat the question he posed to Fox News’ Bret Baier: “What position can a person take who has no animosity toward gay people, but believes in the traditional definition of marriage that would be acceptable?”

Keilar decided not to take a stab at that one but instead told Carson she felt it was “fair” to ask him her original question because as a candidate for president part of his job was to explain his positions. When she repeated her question, he would only say that the Constitution “protects every single American” and “everybody has equal rights, nobody has extra rights.”

“Can we move on to something more important?” Carson asked, as Keilar attempted to elicit a yes or no answer. “Is there anything more important to talk about?”

After she asked him two more times, Carson admitted that “every group faces some type of discrimination,” including Christians. “I wish we would talk more about that.”

When Carson insisted he had answered her question, Keilar stated, for the record, “I think you gave me part of an answer, but not a complete one.”

Here’s how Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio, and more presidential hopefuls spent Memorial Day

“Memorial Day has always been a time of unity for our nation,” Marco Rubio opens a new Facebook video posted in honor of Monday’s holiday. “It’s a time when we put aside partisanship and politics and come together.”

About 20 seconds after talking about putting politics aside, the Republican presidential hopeful begins laying out a general overview of how the armed forces will be treated once he is in the Oval Office.

“As president, I will devote the necessary resources to our national defense,” he says, “I will ensure that they never are sent into a fair fight but rather are always equipped with the upper hand.”

The Florida senator wasn’t the only candidate to share Memorial Day-themed messages on Twitter and Facebook on May 25—although his were the most explicitly tied to his presidential campaign.

Hillary Clinton, Carly Fiorina, and likely candidates Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, and Bobby Jindal posted short messages on social media asking their followers to “remember” the sacrifices America’s servicemen and women have made over the years.

Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and Rand Paularrived at the same destination by taking a different route, imploring their followers to “never forget” those sacrifices instead.

Dr. Carson and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who has yet to formally declare his candidacy, also shared a new Memorial Day tradition with their followers: the patriotic act of quoting oneself.

[VIDEO] Fox’s Wallace Asks Ben Carson if Really Believes All the Things He Says

During a lightning round Sunday morning, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace asked neurosurgeon headline generator Ben Carson if he really believed all the things he said. The presidential hopeful said yup, he did.

Wallace pressed Carson on his comparison of the U.S. to Nazi Germany and his characterization of the Affordable Care Act as the worst thing in America since slavery. Carson defended the former by saying most of Germany did not agree with Hitler’s programs but said little. (Ahem.)

“But people oppose Barack Obama all the time!” Wallace objected.

“There are a lot of people in our society who are afraid to say what they really mean because they may get an IRS audit, people will call them names, their jobs may be interfered with,” Carson said.

Most interestingly, Wallace asked Carson about a statement this week in which he intimated that a president could ignore a Supreme Court ruling. “Dred Scott is a perfect example,” Carson said. “The Supreme Court came up with this and Abraham Lincoln (R-The North) did not agree with it. Now, admittedly it caused a lot of conflict and eventually led to a Civil War, but we’re in a better place because of it.”

Wallace asked whether Carson was disagreeing with Marbury v Madison, which established the principle of judicial review. “This is an area that we need to discuss,” Carson said.

After five years of President Obama, we want a dynamic conservative candidate who we can believe in to take us to 2016. With names on the horizon like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, and Nikki Haley, we have some promising politicians; and another name has risen to the top: Dr. Ben Carson.

Ben Carson is the latest potential presidential candidate to be anointed by conservatives. Less than a year after his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, the 61-year old neurosurgeon, known for his deeply held religious beliefs as well as his determination to live the American Dream, has gained support from many conservative organizations like the Tea Party, right-to-life groups, Americans for Prosperity, Freedom Works, and David Horowitz's Freedom Center .

Carson's post-election entrance onto the national stage at the 2013 Prayer Breakfast gave despondent conservatives new hope. The famous surgeon criticized the President's signature health law and mocked political correctness while the President sat stone faced. Carson's boldness made headlines from MSNBC to far-right alternative blogs.

The decidedly political speech, different from his 1997 Prayer Breakfast address, was a triumph and made him an instant hit with stalwarts on the right. Glenn Beck actually said "I love you" during an interview when Carson told him his favorite person in history was George Washington. Rush Limbaugh thinks Carson "has everybody in the Democrat Party scared to death." Mark Levin and Sarah Palin have lauded Carson on their sites.

CARSON: MLK would be alarmed by black-on-black violence, lack of family values

It is hard to believe that 50 years have elapsed since the famous “I have a dream speech” of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the Mall in Washington. I was an 11-year-old child in Detroit languishing in the midst of poverty, but very interested in the strides that were being made in the civil rights movement.

I was the only black kid in my seventh-grade class and over the previous two years had risen from the bottom of the class to the top. My mother had forced us to read, which had a profound positive effect on both my brother Curtis and myself. I was quite optimistic that things were getting better for black people in America.

If King could be resurrected and see what was going on in America today, I suspect he would be extraordinarily pleased by many of the things he observed and disappointed by others. He, like almost everyone else, would be thrilled to know that there was a two-term black president of the United States of America and a black attorney general, as well as many other high government officials, business executives and university presidents.

Perhaps just as thrilling would be the sight of black doctors, lawyers, airline pilots, construction foremen, news anchors, school superintendents and almost any other position imaginable in America. The fact that seeing blacks in such positions no longer raises eyebrows is a testimony to the tremendous progress that has been made in America over the last 50 years.
