‘Absolutely Ridiculous!’: Fox Host Bill Hemmer Goes Off on Congress for Obamacare Exemption

Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer is not pleased with Congress.

Hemmer spoke with Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) this morning about the “exemptions” members of Congress and their staffers havereportedly sought from paying full price for participation in ObamaCare health exchanges.

After Stockman (who was equally outraged) described the exemptions as “Going to a fine dining restaurant but the chef doesn’t want to eat the food he prepared for you,” Hemmer went off on Congress:

How many members of Congress are going to take the subsidies? I mean, it’s an unbelievable thing that you can pass a law and change the rules and take taxpayer dollars to fund your health care. And to get subsidies that are not granted to everyday Americans. It’s absolutely ridiculous!

Stockman placed the exemption’s blame “unilaterally” on House Democrats, but noted that it’s unclear what the exact “parameters” of the deal will be.

“We’re not going to let go of it,” Hemmer said. “We’re going to figure out, in the end, what it’s about.”

“Well, Bill, we love you for doing that,” Stockman replied.

OFA Gets Zero Attendance for Climate Change Rally

Not a single person showed up at the Georgetown waterfront Tuesday for a climate change agenda event put on by Organizing for Action, the shadowy nonprofit advocacy group born out of President Obama’s 2012 campaign,the NRCC wrote in its blog.

The event page for the “Climate Change Day of Action Rally”disappeared after rainy weather appeared to drive away whatever people planned to attend. The embarrassing showing follows the news that only one volunteer stayed for an OFA Obamacare event in Centreville, Va., last week to work the phones:ngton Free Beacon Staff

CPD Responds to NYC Jabs: We've Reduced Crime Without Violating Rights

CHICAGO — The New York Post website's top headline screamed "Welcome to Chicago" Tuesday morning after some New York police complained that a judge's orderhalting the police department's "stop-and-frisk" tactic will make the Big Apple more dangerous.

The end of stop-and-frisk, which allowed police to pat down and search people on the street, will send crime "soaring to levels found in blighted cities like Chicago and Detroit," New York cops told the Post. 

"Welcome to Chicago," one officer told the paper.

The Chicago Police Department fired back Tuesday afternoon, pointing to the paper's incorrect assertion that crime is "soaring" here.

"In Chicago, we've had significantly less crime, significantly fewer shootings and fewer murders of any year since 1965," Chicago Police Department spokesman Adam Collins said. "And we've done that without imposing on the rights of residents."

The stop-and-frisk ruling came down Monday, with a judge saying that the NYPD violated thousands of New Yorkers' constitutional rights by stopping and searching more than 4 million people they suspected of wrongdoing.

DNAinfo New York reports that the majority of those stopped and searched by New York police were black and Hispanic men — 88 percent of whom were released without any charges.

CA’s “Parent Trigger” Laws Under Union Attack

Last week, parents in the Southern California desert city of Adelanto celebrated the opening of the first school transformed under the state’s 2010 parent-empowerment law, also known as the parent trigger. After two San Bernardino County Superior Court judges upheld their petition to take control of foundering Desert Trails Elementary School, parents selected a nonprofit charter operator to reopen the school as Desert Trails Preparatory Academy. But even as parents celebrate their accomplishments in Adelanto and elsewhere, school-reform opponents are renewing their efforts to undermine the law.

Under the law, if a majority of parents with children at a failing public school sign a petition, they can “trigger” a change in the school’s governance, forcing the school district to adopt one of a handful of reforms: getting rid of some teachers, firing the principal, shutting the school down, or turning it into a charter school. The legislation, authored by former state senator Gloria Romero, empowers parents to circumvent sclerotic school boards and obstructionist teachers’ unions. Teachers’ unions recognized the danger at once, which helps explain why California Federation of Teachers president Marty Hittleman called Romero’s bill a “lynch mob provision.”

Desert Trails was a hard-won fight. In January 2012, parents submitted 466 signatures to the Adelanto Elementary School District, representing 70 percent of the 665 students enrolled. Within days, the California Teachers Association launched a counter-petition drive—just as it had done successfully against a parent-trigger petition drive a year earlier in Compton. But this time, parents sued the school district to accept their petition and reject the CTA’s eleventh-hour rescission campaign. The Confused and Misguided Youth

Dr. Thomas Sowell, Economics professor, economist, writer, and sage, encapsulated brilliantly what ails our youth. “The problem isn’t that Johnny can’t read. The problem isn’t even that Johnny can’t think. The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.”

And the culprits are the American public education, an ever growing lack of religious education, and the indifferent parenting that does not question what children learn or do not learn in school.

Young people in any generation tend to be naïve, idealistic, and gullible; it is easy to sell them anything because they confuse feelings with rational thought. They are told so often and so early in life that they are special that they form a distorted view of themselves.

Undeserved praise is layered at every opportunity, even when Johnny walks across the stage without tripping. We can’t possibly hurt his self-esteem. Competition is evil, it is bourgeois, everybody knows we are “equal,” nobody is special in any way; we are all born with the same IQ, same abilities, mental capacity, intelligence, talent, no genetic irregularities whatsoever. Why even try to learn, compete, be the best that you can be and achieve excellence? Those are capitalist values.

Lerner used personal email for IRS business, say lawmakers

A letter sent Tuesday by Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa and Rep. Jim Jordan, the chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs, requests that Lerner turn over emails sent to or from her personal “msn.com” email address that might pertain to their investigation into the IRS’s inappropriate scrutiny of groups based on their political leanings.

Lerner headed the unit of the IRS charged with dealing with those tax-exempt organizations.

“Through the course of the investigation, we have learned that you sent documents related to your official duties from your official IRS e-mail account to an msn.com e-mail account labeled ‘Lois Home,’” the letter says. “This raises some serious questions concerning your use of a non-official e-mail account to conduct official business.”

Issa and Jordan requested that she turn over any such emails sent between January 1, 2008 and now related to her official duties that might be in personal email accounts, saying that such documents might be relevant to their ongoing investigation.

The use of a personal email, the congressmen write, also raises issues of compliance with the Freedom of Information Act and “frustrates congressional oversight obligations.”

The investigation has faded from the center stage over the past several weeks, but new revelations are reviving the scandal.

Ways and Means Committee chairman Dave Camp and Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Charles Boustany sent a letter Monday requesting that the IRS cease flagging organizations with phrases like “tea party” in the title for increased scrutiny, after an interview with an IRS employee two weeks ago suggested that such criteria was still being used.

Senator: Asylum request ‘abuses’ should put brakes on immigration bill

Accounts that U.S. border officials are facing a surge of Mexican immigrants claiming asylum by using a few key words prompted a top Republican senator to call for the pending immigration bill to be put on hold "until these abuses are ended." 

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., one of the most vocal critics of the comprehensive immigration overhaul being pushed on Capitol Hill, said the surge in asylum requests "has exposed another grave flaw" in the implementation of federal immigration law. 

Documents obtained by Fox News show Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been paying for hotel rooms for dozens of recently arrived families to relieve overcrowding at processing centers in the San Diego area. Some ICE employees are working overtime and others have been asked to volunteer to work weekend shifts. 

Sessions pointed to the wave of asylum requests in arguing that, while the Senate has already passed an immigration bill, the House should not proceed until the issue is addressed. 

"The House cannot allow such actions to continue," Sessions told FoxNews.com in a written statement. "They must use every power they have to end this absurdity. No immigration bill should advance until these abuses are ended."

Oops: Billboards list wrong date for Detroit's Nov. 5 general election

Billboards advertising the city’s upcoming general election sent the wrong message to residents over the weekend.

Many of the 14 billboards gave a September date for the city’s general election. The election actually is Nov. 5.

City Clerk Janice Winfrey said the billboards — 11 purchased by the city and three given as a bonus from International Outdoor, which manages the billboards — were updated Saturday with information about the city’s general election.

“It’s a mistake,” Winfrey said Monday. “People make mistakes. International made such. I saw it Saturday. I called them.”

She said people are making much ado about nothing regarding the erroneous dates.

Winfrey said she was angry, and “I should be.”

“I was paying for it,” she said. “They were trying to be, as they usually are, very proactive right after the election to put the new one up. I’m not mad at them. They’ll have it changed (Tuesday).”

Randy Oram, president of International Outdoor, acknowledged the error this morning in an e-mail to Winfrey, saying the billboards would be corrected Tuesday morning, barring rain seen in the area throughout the day.

Norquist to Newsmax: GOP Should Seek 1-Year Delay of Obamacare 'Disaster'

Low-tax crusader and Republican strategist Grover Norquist tells Newsmax that Republicans should seek a one-year delay in the implementation of the healthcare reform bill as a first step toward abolishing the "disaster" of Obamacare.

He also asserts that President Barack Obama's tax reform plan is a "Trojan horse" hiding a trillion-dollar tax increase.

Norquist is president of Americans for Tax Reform, whose Taxpayer Protection Pledge asks candidates to commit themselves in writing to oppose all tax increases.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV on Monday, Norquist discusses efforts to delay Obamacare.


"The good news is, we have dozens and dozens of conservative groups from the Repeal Coalition, the effort to repeal Obamacare, that sent a letter to the Republican leaders. And there are now 50 Republicans in the House who have co-sponsored Marsha Blackburn's legislation to delay the implementation of Obamacare for a year," he says.

"Our goal is to get rid of Obamacare and to replace it with a pro-consumer, pro-healthcare effort. But what can we do now as long as Obama is president and you have Harry Reid, left-wing Democrat, running the U.S. Senate? We could get a one-year delay, just as in 2011 we got an agreement that Obama signed to cut $2.5 trillion in spending out of the next decade's budget.
