Starry-eyed Liberal Meets the Reality of Medicaid Patients

President Obama addressed health rights in his August 17 radio address, but he didn't mention what happens inside an inner city emergency room.  Wait until his lemmings find out what having a "right" to healthcare means according to the single-payer collectivists.  If the dulled masses, schooled in the evils of capitalism these last forty years, don't wake up in time to the connection between free market principles and the genius of American medicine, the progressives' long yearned for single-payer system, already in the works, will become a reality.

Those of us in the healthcare field have seen up close what government programs like Medicaid mean in terms of a "right" to medical care.  Our emergency room happens to be in a major southern urban area.  If any one of the 20-somethings who voted for Obama would be willing to volunteer for at least a month at our facility, I can almost guarantee these same hoodwinked young people would be singing the praises of capitalism, warts and all. 

Just ask Samantha (name changed to protect identity).  With so many college graduates looking for work, we recently hired the 24-year old at our registration desk.  Samantha is a die-hard liberal, but it just so happens her boyfriend is a 28-year-old conservative-minded accountant.  When first hired about three months ago, she talked a great deal about their political differences. 

Samantha was very sympathetic to the plight of the poor and their need for assistance.  Moreover, she felt her boyfriend didn't understand the situation with this segment of the population which would be unable to survive without help from the government.

Hoekstra: Obama Has 'Ruined' America's Credibility in the Mideast

Former Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra says President Barack Obama’s embrace of the Muslim Brotherhood as Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi rose to power has destroyed America’s credibility in the Mideast.

“The president believed that with the power of his personality, he could fundamentally change the nature of the relationship with radical jihadist elements and their view of the United States,” Hoekstra told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“They saw it as weakness, they took advantage of it, they're taking advantage of it all across the Middle East. America's credibility is ruined.”

Hoekstra, former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the Egypt’s new government — which came to power with the military’s overthrow of Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood — is by no means perfect. But, warts and all, it is superior to what was in place.

“They represent the interests that were aligned with the United States for 30 years, they kept stability in Northern Africa, they protected the borders with Israel, they kept the Suez Canal open, they maintained peace and stability,” Hoekstra said.

“I will take that, an imperfect government like that that gets those kinds of outcomes versus what we saw with the Muslim Brotherhood over the last two years.”

Hundreds have been killed across Egypt in the past week as the government fights Muslim Brotherhood supporters demanding the reinstatement of Morsi.

He said that while the Muslim Brotherhood was in control, it sanctioned attacks on the Christian minority.

“Now that they've been overthrown, they're blaming it on the Christian minority — and it is absolutely brutal and horrific. It's why we should never have partnered with the Muslim Brotherhood or sanctioned them or recognized them,” he said.

$2,001,093,000,000: Fed’s Ownership of U.S. Debt Breaks $2T for First Time

(CNSNews.com) - The Federal Reserve’s holdings of publicly traded U.S. Treasury securities—federal government debt—pushed above $2 trillion for the first time last week, hitting approximately $2,001,093,000,000 as of Aug. 14, according to the Fed’s latest weekly accounting.

The Fed’s accounting for the previous week showed that it had owned approximately $1,993,375,000,000 in U.S. Treasury securities as of Aug. 7.

Back on Dec. 31, 2008, before the Fed began its strategy of “Quantitative Easing," the Fed owned only $475.9 billion in U.S. Treasury securities. Since then, the Fed’s holdings of U.S. government debt have more than quadrupled.

Launched in 2009, the Fed's Quantitative Easing (QE) efforts have attempted to stimulate the economy.

“Under QE,” explains a February 2013 Congressional Research Service report, “the Fed attempts to lower long-term Treasury and MBS [mortgage-backed security] yields directly through purchases that drive down their yields, in the hope that lower Treasury and MBS yields will indirectly filter through to reductions in other private long-term yields. (Lower Treasury yields do not directly stimulate economic activity—they are only stimulative if other yields fall as a result.) This could occur because Treasury securities are considered a ‘benchmark’ against which other private securities are priced, so that other securities are automatically repriced when Treasuries are repriced (although the change is unlikely to be one-to-one).”

Scalia: High court shouldn’t ‘invent new minorities that get special protections’

Justice Antonin Scalia warned Monday that the Supreme Court is overstepping its authority on matters that should be left to Congress or voters.

Speaking at an event sponsored by the Federalist Society in Montana, Scalia said the high court should not intervene on issues such as wiretapping and “inventing” new minorities, according to reports.

“It's not up to the courts to invent new minorities that get special protections,” Scalia said, in an apparent reference to the court's recent decisions on gay marriage and federal benefits for same-sex couples.

Scalia said courts should not create new rights, leaving that to constitutional changes or to Congress

The Supreme Court in June overturned a key part of the Defense of Marriage Act that blocks married same-sex couples from receiving some federal benefits and, in a separate case, paved the way for gay marriages to resume in California.

Scalia wrote a blistering dissent in the court's decision to overturn DOMA.

Scalia on Monday also warned that courts should be careful not to rule on some intelligence questions that were historically handled by Congress, such as the extent of National Security Agency surveillance of phone and email records.

Congress has information about how serious a national security threat is, Scalia said, where the judiciary does not.

Kerry Reinstates Benghazi Officials Clinton Punished

Secretary of State John Kerry has determined that the four State Department officials placed on administrative leave by Hillary Clinton after the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi do not deserve any formal disciplinary action and has asked them to come back to work at the State Department starting Tuesday.

Last December, Clinton’s staff told four mid-level officials to clean out their desks and hand in their badges after the release of the report of its own internal investigation into the Benghazi attack, compiled by the Administrative Review Board led by former State Department official Tom Pickering and former Joint Chiefs Chairman Ret. Adm. Mike Mullen. Those four officials have been in legal and professional limbo, not fired but unable to return to their jobs, for eight months… until today.

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Raymond Maxwell, the only official from the State Department’s Near Eastern Affairs bureau to lose his job over the Benghazi attack, told The Daily Beast Monday he received a memo from the State Department’s human resources department informing him his administrative leave status has been lifted and he should report for duty Tuesday morning.

“No explanation, no briefing, just come back to work. So I will go in tomorrow,” Maxwell said.

America 3.0: The Coming Reinvention of America

America is currently in a painful transition period, but once it emerges, it will be more prosperous and free than ever before.

The United States of America is in crisis. The economy is supposedly in recovery, but it is the slowest and most painful economic rebound since the Great Depression. Unemployment is high and millions have dropped out of the workforce entirely. Many American families have suffered a collapse in their net worth since 2009. During the current administration, America’s debt has increased from ten trillion to sixteen trillion dollars. American businesses face a regulatory burden of well over a trillion dollars per year. Investment in start-up businesses is thwarted and innovation is far short of what it should be. The government is abusing its powers and attacking basic liberties.

All this bad news makes it easy to despair and to worry that the decline might just be permanent. But as bad as things are today — and they will likely get worse for some years to come — the future will be bright for the United States because we are, in fact, in a period of transformation, not decline.

Transformation not Disintegration

America has already once made a change on the scale of that which is happening now. That was when it transformed itself from the rural and agrarian society of the founding era — which we call America 1.0 — to the urban and industrial society that peaked in the mid-20th century — which we call America 2.0. That earlier transition, from roughly 1860 to 1920, was more painful than most people think. Yet the transformed, industrial America became the wonder of the world.

The American political and economic regime now in crisis was built for the world of America 2.0. Today, we are in the midst of a dramatic transition to a new technological and political configuration — which we call America 3.0. Institutions that once looked permanent are cracking at the foundations. Technology will drive the transition, and the shape of future technology can only be known in broad outline.

Most importantly, the cultural foundation of America, based on its unique type of family life, will remain intact. This is the continuous thread linking each of the three “versions” of America. Our deeply rooted orientation toward personal and economic freedom will allow us to dismantle America 2.0 and build a better, freer, and more prosperous America 3.0 in its place.

It was recently announced that Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory will be serving as honorary chairman of the Free at Last PAC, which describes itself as being “formed by several leaders as an effort to support Black Republicans who run for federal office and also to educate Blacks about the values of the Republican Party.” Below is a summary of a 4:00 video he posted online:

“Liberalism has nearly destroyed black America, and now it’s time for black America to return the favor,” Guillory says with a smile in his new video.

Throughout the video, the state senator argues that the Republican Party is more in line with the values of the black community than the Democrat Party, asking: “After all, what was God’s plan for our people? Is this why God delivered us from the wilderness of slavery, so that able-bodied men could sit on the porch all day drinking  liquor? Was it God’s plan that we would trade one plantation for another?”

“Truth is undeniable,” he maintained.  “Evil may attack it. Ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. I promise you that one day it will be impossible for black Americans to deny the truth about this liberal nanny state…”

Guillory said it is his “sincere hope” that he and others can help people reach the conclusion before economic realities force them to the realization.  When a government is spending three dollars for every two it takes in, he said, eventually the grocery store will say “no thank you” to food stamps, Medicare cards won’t work, and the welfare checks won’t cash.

“Only capitalism can provide the upward mobility for the meekest among us to break the shackles of poverty and rise into the middle class,” he urged.

For too long, the Republican Party has cowered and acted “ashamed of the very values that made America the shining city on a hill,” Guillory said.

It’s time to “reach into the black community and articulate those values that fuel the American dream,” he added. “We will be silent no more.”

Sen. Ted Cruz To Renounce Canadian Citizenship

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) announced Monday evening that he will renounce his Canadian citizenship, less than 24 hours after a newspaper pointed out that the Canadian-born senator likely maintains dual citizenship.

“Now the Dallas Morning News says that I may technically have dual citizenship,” Cruz said in a statement. “Assuming that is true, then sure, I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and as a U.S. senator; I believe I should be only an American.”

The Dallas Morning News wrote in a story posted late Sunday night that Cruz likely remains a Canadian citizen, by virtue of being born there to an American mother. Having never renounced that citizenship, Cruz was technically a Canadian and an American citizen, according to legal experts.

Cruz said his mother told him that he could claim his citizenship if he ever wanted to, but that he never pursued it and thought the matter was settled.

Legal experts say that Cruz is a Canadian citizen regardless of whether he asked for it or not.

“Because I was a U.S. citizen at birth, because I left Calgary when I was 4 and have lived my entire life since then in the U.S., and because I have never taken affirmative steps to claim Canadian citizenship, I assumed that was the end of the matter,” Cruz said.

Seattle Mayor Invites Businesses to Post 'Gun-Free Zone' Signs in Their Stores

SIGN SHOULD DAY "YOU ARE INVITED IN TO ROB ME"!

(CNSNews.com) – Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, a Democrat, is inviting local merchants to voluntarily post “Gun Free Zone” signs in their businesses, letting customers who have guns know they should shop elsewhere.

“We are here to support businesses that do not wish to have guns on their premises” McGinn said in a press release issued by Washington CeaseFire, which is partnering with the mayor for the campaign. “The police department regularly enforces trespass laws when a visitor to a business violates that business’s rules.”

“We will continue to do so, and I thank these businesses for standing up for the safety of their customers,” McGinn said.

About a dozen businesses have signed up so far, according to a King5.com report.

“We’re making a statement as a community,” Ralph Fascitelli, the Washington CeaseFire board president, said in the press release. “We know this won’t stop someone determined to cause violence, but we hope that standing together and giving businesses a tool to say no to guns will change the conversation around gun violence.”

“Maybe our message will even make it to Olympia – we need better tools now to stop gun violence in our community,” Fascitelli said, citing the capital of the state.
