Charlie Rangel Blasts Obama: ‘Saying You’re Sorry Doesn’t Help Me Worth a Damn at the Polls’

Democrats are not happy with how the continued Obamacare rollout boxed them into a corner next week, and a few of them are speaking out, including New York’s Charlie Rangel, who’s shown a willingness to publicly criticize President Obama in the past. This time Rangel took on the president for his weak apology for all the problems surrounding the health care law.
Obama took responsibility for all the problems with the health care law, but he did admit he was unaware with the website’s problems beforehand, because as Obama said, he wouldn’t have been “stupid” enough to talk about how simple online enrollment would have been had he known.
Rangel wasn’t satisfied by any of Obama’s explanation at all, according to the New York Daily News.
Still, some Democrats called for making legislative changes in addition to those Obama announced. Democrats said that colleagues vulnerable in next year’s election remained concerned about a backlash from voters.
“If I had the problem, saying you’re sorry doesn’t help me worth a damn at the polls, unless I can staple your remarks to the ballot,” Rep. Charles Rangel (D-Manhattan) said.
Well, perhaps they could work out a deal. In 2014, instead of the names of the Democrats up for reelection, they just post “we apologize for the inconvenience,” and for the GOP it can be “if you like your plan you can keep your plan.”

$174K-Per-Year Rangel: ‘No Question About It' Taxpayers Should Help Him Buy Obamacare Plan

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) says that there is “no question” that members of Congress who are paid $174,000 a year are entitled to taxpayer-funded subsidies when they purchase health insurance in the Obamacare exchanges.
In response to questions posed by CNSNews.com on Capitol Hill Wednesday, Rangel said that he considers the subsidies part of Congress’ “overall compensation” even though ordinary Americans who earn $174,000 per year would have to have at least nine dependent children to qualify for the same subsidy if they bought insurance in the Obamacare exchanges.
CNSNews.com: "Earlier today, Congressman Barton on C-SPAN - who like most members of Congress makes $174,000 a year - said that he gets a $10,800 taxpayer subsidy for his health insurance, which most people who make his money would not ordinarily get in the private sector. Do you think members of Congress should be able to get that subsidy?"
Rangel: "We should not be able to get any subsidy that anybody with a life profession, who’d be getting from any other employer, and it’s my understanding that the government’s contribution is on square with the type of job we have in the private sector."

‘What Are You Talking About?’ CNN Anchor Laughs at Dem Rep. for Linking GOP to Confederacy

CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield ripped into and laughed at Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) in an interview on Tuesday morning after he responded to a House proposal to open the government and raise the debt ceiling in exchange for changes to the Affordable Care Act by linking the GOP in Congress to the Confederacy. Rangel added that Republicans are overtly attempting to overthrow the government of the United States of America.
“I’m certain that history is going to record that this is the lowest moment that we’ve had in the Congress,” Rangel said of the present state of negotiations between Congressional Democrats and Republicans.
“I get it,” Banfield agreed. “This whole thing has been embarrassing.” She repeated her question about just how palatable the new House GOP proposal is for Congressional Democrats.
“This isn’t a question of the House and Senate differing. This is not even a question about Republicans and Democrats differing,” Rangel replied. “This is all about a handful of people who got elected as Republicans that want to bring down our government.”
“The same way they fought as Confederates, they want to bring down the government and reform it,” he added.
“Whoa,” Banfield interjected. “I’m sorry. Are you likening — and I’m only assuming that you’re referring to the tea party members who are pretty intransigent on their views — are you liking them to Confederates?
“Well, I can tell you this, if you look at the states that they control, take a look at the Dixiecrats, see how they went over to the Republican Party,” Rangel replied.
Michele Bachmann is not from Dixie,” Banfield interrupted. “What are you talking about?”

Rangel Calls Obama-Syria Situation 'Embarrassing'; Press, Other Than Politico, Ignores

Monday morning, 22-term Democratic Congressman Charlie Rangel of New York, as reported by Tal Kopan at the Politico, said that President Barack Obama's drawing of a "red line" on Syria is "embarrassing," and that he is against "putting our kids in harm’s way to solve an international problem."
Rangel is the third most-senior House member of either party. If a senior Republican congressperson similarly criticized opposed a Republican or conservative president in a matter such as this, there would be widespread establishment press coverage. In this case, there's very little. This is not unusual for stories detrimental to Democratic Party interests, as the rest of the establishment press all too often seems content to say, "Oh, that was already in the Politico, so we don't have to cover it."
Here are several parargraps from Kopan's item, wherein Rangel also expresses displeasure with having the entire matter pushed onto Congress:

Rep. Charles Rangel on Monday called the situation for the United States on Syria “embarrassing,” saying America should not put its troops in harm’s way because of a “red line” drawn by the president.
The New York Democrat was responding to a question on MSNBC about whether he’s concerned that if Congress doesn’t support President Barack Obama’s move to authorize a military strike in Syria, it will send the wrong message.
MSNBC host Mara Schiavocampo asked Rangel, “In terms of that red line, the president was clear about that a year ago. Are you concerned if there is not action once that line has been crossed that it will send a message to the world about United States’ influence and their strength in the face of countries openly defying them?”
“I love Obama, and you’ll never find a truer Democrat than me,” Rangel responded, “but this whole idea of any president of the United States drawing lines saying that if any country does something that he considers wrong that the nation is going to war, it’s unheard of, drawing a red line. So, of course, it’s embarrassing. I wish it didn’t happen. ...
... Rangel said he was glad the president realized the situation is not urgent and he hopes the time for discussion Obama is urging will have positive results.
... I hope that other people in the international community would come forward and take this great decision off of the Congress because we have to make it. Take it off of the Congress and provide some solution where we are not putting our kids in harm’s way to solve an international problem that we feel bounded, not by law, but because the president has drawn a red line,” Rangel said.

CHARLES RANGEL ADDRESSING OPPONENTS OF OBAMACARE: “I SAW THE HATRED THAT WAS IN PEOPLE’S EYES.”

charlie_rangel_hotMany Democrats insist the opposition to Obama and ObamaCare is rooted in racism. Rep. Charles Rangel loses no time in addressing this concern.
Referring to racial inequalities, Rep. Charles Rangel says in The Hill:
“How do you overcome it? We certainly haven’t done it with an African-American president. I saw the people who scream and shout about ObamaCare. I saw the hatred that was in people’s eyes. People are not being honest with themselves if they don’t realize that the roots of racism go deep, that we still have not been able to cut that cancer out of the side of America.”
The leftist hypocrisy continues.

Rangel: ‘No reason why a young person should have to pay for college education’ [VIDEO]

On Martin Bashir’s Thursday MSNBC program, New York Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel said that no students should have to pay for college.
Rangel was reacting to President Barack Obama’s higher education proposal rollout that would put in place requirements for students and institutions to receive federal financial aid assistance.
Rangel explained to fill-in host Joy Reid that he support Obama’s plan, particularly the accountability components.
“I think it’s exciting, and certainly it’s going to bring in accountability,” he said. “You know, we have universities scattered all over the world. Sometimes you think that tuition means nothing to a large group of people who pay these enormous salaries to college presidents. But if you’re talking about production, if you’re talking about what is the college really giving someone that doesn’t want a worldwide education, they just want to be able to compete. This makes sense.”

Rangel, however, told Reid those reforms alone weren’t enough and would offer college to Americans for free.

Rangel umbrage at Cantor: Higher taxes are 'paying your fair share!'

Censured Tax Cheat Charlie Rangel

New York Rep. Charles Rangel, censured by the House for ethics violations over squirrely financial dealings like failing to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in assets and failing to pay income taxes, today called President Obama's goal of killing some Bush tax cuts "paying your fair share!"
The 82-year-old's umbrage came in a tweet while he was in the Cannon Rotunda interview area. According to a picture he also tweeted, he was near House Majority Leader Eric Cantor who was in a discussion over the Bush tax cuts.
"My ears perking up to hear RepCantor saying taxes will go up under Pres Obama. It's called 'paying your fair share!'" Rangel tweeted just after noon.
His picture shows Rangel waiting to be interviewed with Cantor off to the right, TV light shining off his face as he is being interviewed.
It's the second time this week Rangel has ranted on proper ethics and tax paying. Earlier this week he rapped Mitt Romney for accurately saying that some 47 percent of Americans don't pay taxes. Rangel said in a statement that was just federal taxes, and that the 47 percent actually do pay some taxes, presumably local taxes.
When the tweet made its way around Capitol Hill today, many Rangel critics choked, mocking his long list of ethical challenges. His reputation and career were damaged when he was charged with ethical violations, forced to step down as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and eventually censured.
