Federal Judge Orders Cancellation of Redskins’ Trademark Registration

Read more at http://shark-tank.com/2015/07/09/federal-judge-orders-cancellation-of-redskins-trademark-registration/On Wednesday, a federal judge ordered the cancellation of the Washington Redskins federal trademark registrations. It is the biggest blow to the NFL team thus far.
The cancellation is seen as a “huge victory” by the activists but according to the Washington Post, it does not go into effect until the team has exhausted the appeals process.
Redskins President, Bruce Allen is not giving up. He said:
We are convinced that we will win on appeal as the facts and the law are on the side of our franchise that has proudly used the name Washington Redskins for more than 80 years.
Even if the Redskins take the issue to the Supreme Court and lose they can still use “Redskins” and seek trademark protection from the state. The team is arguing the cancellation of their trademark will tarnish their brand and remove legal benefits that would protect them against copycats.
The NFL team is arguing the majority of Native Americans are not offended by there name whereas the opposition is saying they find it very offensive and want it changed.
Five Native American activists have been pursuing the case against the Redskins. They include Amanda Blackhorse who is a Navajo Indian known for leading protests against the team.
Blackhorse has said:
This case is about humanizing the indigenous identity. I have asked this many times before and have never heard a sensible answer — if people wouldn’t date all a Native American a ‘redskin’ because they know it is offensive, how can an NFL football team have this name?
Other courts have concluded Blackhorse did not reach the burden of proof by showing enough Native Americans find the NFL teams name offensive.

[VIDEO] O’Donnell Falsely Claims Racist NFL Owners Invented ‘Redskins’ Mascot

BY:
MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell offered an uninformed characterization of the origin of the Washington Redskins mascot Monday on The Last Word.
The MSNBC host alleged the name was “invented by white guys” in 1933:
LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: The name of the Washington football team was invented by white guys in 1933 when the team was then located in Boston. We don’t have notes from the naming session so we don’t know what else the team owner vetoed. Boston white skins? I doubt that made the list even though the team was very, very white. So what were the chances that the white guys in Boston in 1933 would come up with a racist term when thinking of people of different races? The chances were 100 percent.
However, according to Senior Linguist of the Smithsonian Institute Ives Goddard, the term “redskin” predates the 20th century and extends back to the colonial period. Moreover, according to Goddard, both members of the Native American community and whites used the term:
It was from the use of red as a conventional iconic reference to North American Indians, both by Native Americans and by representatives of the Colonial European powers, that the word redskin emerged. This development took place among a small group of people in a limited area, part of what was historically called the Illinois Country.
O’Donnell also claimed “we don’t have notes on the meeting,” but because the owners were white guys from Boston in the 1930s the odds of adopting a racist team name were high.

PINOCCHAHONTAS: ELIZABETH WARREN DOUBLES DOWN ON CHEROKEE CLAIM

In her new "Family" television ad, Elizabeth Warren directly responds to the controversy surrounding her claims to Native American heritage.

Here are the three central claims Ms. Warren makes using the same phrasing she's tested out with crowds over the past several months:
1. That she has Native American heritage.
2. That her parents were forced to elope because her father's parents objected to their marriage due to her mother's heritage.
3. That she did not benefit from "checking the box" as a Native American in a law school professor directory several times during the 1980s and 1990s.
Let's analyze these three claims, one by one:
Claim #1:  "[My mother] was part Cherokee and part Delaware."
As Breitbart News and many other sources have documented in excruciating detail, there is zero credible evidence to support the claim that Elizabeth Warren's mother had any Native American heritage, either Cherokee or Delaware. The only "evidence" Ms. Warren has ever presented to support those claims are her recollections and the recollections of her brothers that her mother and grandmother made such claims while they were children.
Claim #2: "[M]y parents had to elope."
Ms. Warren repeated this claim that Breitbart News debunked in June at the debate with Scott Brown last Thursday.
