REPORT: Once Again, Sunday Morning Talk Shows Are White, Male, And Conservative

In the first nine months of 2013, white men dominated the guest lists on the broadcast network Sunday shows and CNN's State of the Union. MSNBC was the only network achieving notable diversity in its guests, particularly on Melissa Harris-Perry's show. Republicans and conservatives are hosted significantly more on the broadcast Sunday shows than Democrats and progressives.
Media Matters has continued its monitoring of the Sunday morning talk shows on broadcast and cable networks. Following up on our previous studies, we've added data for July, August, and September to the existing data collected for the first six months of this year on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos, CBS' Face the Nation, Fox Broadcasting Co.'s Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, NBC's Meet the Press, CNN's State of the Union with Candy Crowley, and MSNBC's Up with Steve Kornacki and Melissa Harris-Perry. Unless otherwise specified all charts and analysis below are based on the full nine months of data.

The White Male Stranglehold On The Sunday Shows

White Men Still Represent The Largest Proportion Of Guests Except On Melissa Harris-Perry. Six of the seven shows analyzed -- This WeekFace the NationFox News SundayMeet the PressState of the Union, and Up -- have hosted white men at a significantly higher rate than their 31 percent portion of the population.Melissa Harris-Perry provided the greatest diversity among guests, providing a much higher rate of white women and African-American guests than the other programs; Up also hosted a higher percentage of people from those demographics than CNN or the broadcast programs. Latino, Asian-American, and Middle Eastern guests have been largely absent from the Sunday shows. Native Americans fared even worse, with only two appearances (one on Melissa Harris-Perry and one on Up) out of a total of 2,436 appearances over the nine-month period studied.

Obama Laughs Off Negative Poll Numbers to Barbara Walters: ‘Nowhere to Go But Up’

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama sat down with Barbara Walters for a wide-ranging interview that aired Friday night, and the first issue Walters brought up was the president’s record low approval numbers. But Obama just shrugged them aside as the hazards of the job, joking, “The good thing about when you’re down is that usually, you’ve got nowhere to go but up.”
Walters brought up Obama getting booed at a basketball game. The First Lady said, “It’s part of the job,” and said she’s gotten booed as well, though Walters did point out her numbers have always been a bit better than her husband’s.
Obama is at roughly the same popularity level that George W. Bush was at at this poing in his presidency, but the current officeholder dismissed the poll showing people no longer consider him trustworthy. When Walters brought up his comment from years ago about preferring to be a good one-term president than a mediocre two-term one, Obama joked that he’d love to be a good two-termer if he had his druthers.

HAGAN PLEADS THE FIFTH ON OBAMACARE

Last week more of Kay Hagan’s Democratic colleagues revealed that they knew full well that some Americans would lose health care plans that they liked, yet repeatedly made dishonest promises otherwise.
Kay Hagan, however, has repeatedly refused to acknowledge the truth that millions of Americans are losing health insurance that they like as they are forced into the ObamaCare exchanges. This is - and always has been - an intended consequence of the Affordable Care Act.
ABC11′s Jon Camp reports: “Sen Kay Hagan defends ‘Obamacare’ but won’t say when she learned not everyone would be able to keep their insurance, as promised.”
Click here to watch the full segment.
Kay Hagan’s own spokesperson all but admitted that the Senator knew that Americans would lose their health insurance, despite repeatedly promising otherwise. Three years ago, Hagan joined her Senate Democratic colleagues in unanimously supporting the very ObamaCare rule that’s responsible for the health insurance cancellations that have caused so much consternation over the last month. Even though 473,000 North Carolinians face the possibility of losing their health insurance, Kay Hagan refuses to accept responsibility for her deciding vote in favor of ObamaCare.
Either Hagan was knowingly dishonest about people keeping their care yet repeatedly promised otherwise; or, Hagan is so incompetent that she didn’t comprehend the legislation that she championed.

2019: The Future of Doctors Under Obama Universal Coverage for Health (O.U.C.H.)

The year was 2019, in the third term of the Reign of Obama the Secular. Owing to an extreme left wing Supreme Court stacked with four Obama appointees, who managed to declare the United States Constitution itself unconstitutional to the extent that it limited the ability of the Great One to serve no more than two terms, Obama was well on his way to becoming the first President since Roosevelt to be elected to four terms.

A generation that voted for free stuff in 2008, 2012, and 2016 begat another generation of voters who wanted free stuff. In time, the number of voters expecting free stuff—and knowing they would get it from Uncle Sugar—reached a tipping point. They soon outnumbered those who worked, paid taxes, and created jobs. For the next decade they continued to vote for politicians who promised free stuff.  Of course, this ensured that the King of Free Stuff, Obama the Secular—who never met a government program he did not like—would be re-elected for life.

By 2019, the government had acquired Government Motors—which produced the Obamobile—a tinny scaled-down, politically correct Smart Car powered by chicken manure, which got 150 miles per gallon and rode two people and one sack of groceries comfortably. If you did not hit anything harder that a marshmallow, did not want to ride farther than ten miles, and did not need to carry anything, the Obamobile was great—and guaranteed not to crush you in an impact less than 5 miles per hour.

The government also owned the press, which had willingly volunteered to merge into a new federal agency comprised of ABC, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, named “The Department of ObaMedia,” whose mission it was to announce the whereabouts and accomplishments of the Great Leader, do Obama Infomercials and feed the people news as to any new government controls on their lives.  All banks were nationalized and combined into one mega bank—“ObamaNational.”

Host Amy Robach diagnosed with breast cancer after 'Good Morning America' on-air mammogram

amy robach 660 abc handout.jpgABC News correspondent Amy Robach says she has breast cancer, a month after she was given a mammogram on the air for a "Good Morning America" story.
"Honestly, I was a little reluctant at first," Robach admitted on "GMA" Monday morning. "I'm 40, I'm the age and I've been putting it off."
Robach got the screening as part of the show's October Pink initiative, aimed at encouraging viewers to get checked, according toPeople.
She said she was shocked by the news, as she has no family history of the disease. A doctor has since told her that the mammogram saved her life, and she'll have both breasts surgically removed Thursday, she announced.
"It's still hard for me to say the words out loud: 'I have breast cancer,'" Robach said.
Robach was a frequent fill-in on ABC's morning show while Robin Roberts was fighting a serious blood and bone marrow disease.
Roberts held Robach's hand as her "GMA" colleagues wished her well.
"You're going to beat this," they told her.

[VIDEO] Protesters slam Jimmy Kimmel over 'kill everyone in China' joke

More than 1,000 people picketed ABC’s headquarters in Burbank on Saturday to protest a Jimmy Kimmel segment that joked that the United States should “kill everyone in China.”
Burbank police said they responded to the protest in the 2300 block of Riverside Drive after some demonstrators went into a restricted area. However, police said the protest was peaceful and no one was arrested.
The protest was part of a nationwide move backed by Chinese American organizations against the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” recurring segment called “Kids' Table.” Similar protests...

[VIDEO] Priorities: ABC Allows a Scant 21 Seconds for ObamaCare Grilling, Hypes New 'Thor' Movie

ABC on Wednesday and Thursday managed a mere 21 seconds total for the latest revelations about the botched ObamaCare rollout, minimizing the grilling that Kathleen Sebelius took before Congress and the resignation of one of the people behind the website. Instead, Good Morning America focused on deeply irrelevant topics such as promoting "Thor's leading lady," star Natalie Portman. In comparison to ObamaCare, the actress appeared for over three minutes on Thursday.
NBC's Today also yawned at the resignation of Tony Trenkle, the chief information officer at HealthCare.gov. Wednesday's Nightly News featured the testimony of Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius for two minutes and 20 seconds. In contrast to ABC, which featured no clips of Sebelius's appearance, NBC included Republican senators such as John Thune, deriding, "This is a dishonesty. You've been misleading the American people!" [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
CBS offered the most coverage, three reports over seven and 35 seconds. On CBS This Morning, Norah O'Donnell explained, "[Trenkle] is the first official to leave since the botched rollout of the website. Meanwhile, 16 Senate Democrats told President Obama how frustrated are by all the problems."
Journalist Major Garrett described it as "rough day" for the secretary and informed, "Even friendly Democrats demanded a functioning website before month's end and better information." The This Morning reporter noted the President's dropping poll numbers, comparing them to George W. Bush after Hurricane Katrina. The program offered a follow-up report in the 8am hour.
The previous night's CBS Evening News, Wyatt Andrews delivered a balanced look at one woman who has embraced Obamacare and another who will suffer because of it: Anchor Scott Pelley lamented, "Three and a half million Americans have been told that their health plans will be canceled because their plans don't meet the minimum requirements of ObamaCare."

WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN MELTS DOWN OVER OBAMACARE APPLICATION LIES

Yesterday we learned, thanks to the diligent efforts of House Republican investigators, that the ObamaCare phone lines and paper applications are a huge fraud, just like the rest of the program.  President Obama and his spokespeople were blatantly lying – and they knew it - when they desperately stalled for time by telling enraged survivors of the HealthCare.gov crash to enroll via phone or mail.  That doesn’t work, because the same busted computer system is ultimately required to process the application.  It’s just a waste of the American people’s time – something this Administration holds to be utterly without value, at least when compared to their political viability.
As luck would have it, the intrepid Jonathan Karl of ABC News confronted White House Spokesman Jay Carney – who is, as Karl noted, one of the people who falsely told Americans they could enroll over the phone – with these embarrassing revelations during  Monday afternoon press conference.  Hilarity ensued.
Carney’s “defense” boils down to a modified version of the insult Obama apologists have taken to throwing at the American people, when they claim he merely “mis-spoke” when repeatedly promising that no one would be forced to give up their existing insurance policy under ObamaCare, period.  Carney claimed he said frustrated consumers could “get on the phone and call and the paperwork is filled out of them and the process is taken over from there.”

[VIDEO] Obamacare Phone, Paper Applications Plagued as Much as Website

BY:
Internal administration memos reveal that phone and paper applications for Obamacare are just as glitch-ridden as the websiteGood Morning America reported Monday.
Using those other outlets is not the “quick and easy fix that the White House suggested it would be,” ABC White House correspondent Jonathan Karl said.
Applications over the phone have the same problems as the website, because they use the same computer system. The same portal is used to determine eligibility no matter now an application for health coverage is submitted, according to one memo written by the team charged with fixing the website.
That memo describes filling out the paper application as a way to “buy time,” Karl said. It goes on to read, “The paper applications allow people to feel like they are moving forward … At the end of the day, we are all stuck in the same queue.

Major Media File Lawsuits To Squeeze Obama For Federal ObamaCare Enrollment Numbers

The Hill newspaper reports “A slew of media organizations have petitioned the government to release ObamaCare data that the White House has refused to make public.”

ABC, CNN, MSNBC and others have filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) seeking information on the beleaguered healthcare.gov website. They asked for government documents revealing how many Americans have enrolled in the new healthcare exchanges.
ABC News wants "the documents detailing and describing the actual and potential costs associated with addressing flaws in [the healthcare.gov] website from Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct. 21, 2013." MSNBC also sought the "up to date number of people who have enrolled in the government's healthcare exchanges set up by” Obamacare.

“Some media outlets have asked for internal e-mail communications between key administration officials on the implementation of ObamaCare,” but “Government processing of FOIA requests can take weeks, months or years.” Team Obama promises a number by mid-November, so this is a way for media outlets to underline that they’re on the case and frustrated by the administration's reluctance to release numbers, even if the lawsuits aren’t quickly effective.

The numbers are going to be politically sensitive. As Josh Archambault argued at Forbes, “Over 500,000 individuals have seen their insurance policies cancelled in just 3 states.  In all 50 states, only 476,000 applications have been ‘filed’ in an exchange.”
