Unhinged Matthews Sneers at 'So-Called Independent Media' Giving 'Racist' GOP a Free Pass

What world does Chris Matthews live in? The MSNBC anchor worked himself into a frenzy on Monday night, ranting that the "so-called independent media" are just too soft on all the "racist" elements within the Republican Party. Talking to his fellow liberals David Corn and Ed Rendell, the Hardball host balked, "I look at the free ride the media has been giving the Republican Party." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
According to Matthews, it's conservative media bias that causes most journalists to ignore the "40 million people [Republicans] want to commit to the emergency room!" Conservatives "don't want to lift a finger for them!" Yet, "the so-called independent media out there never brings it up!" If the problem is that reporters don't call Republicans racist enough, Matthewscertainly does his part – and continued his cries of bigotry on Monday night.
The cable anchor began by demanding, "...I think it's time for the President to stick it to his enemies." Matthews identified:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: No, his true enemies are the backers and kissing cousins of the birthers, the people like John Boehner, who refuse to stand up to them, who makes common cause with the haters even as he positions himself as not quite one of them, who keep their hands clean even as they benefit from the garbage their birther buddies are throwing out at the latest right-wing feeding time at the zoo.

PBS Host Calls MSNBC Anchor and MSNBC Contributors 'Advocates' - To Their Faces

Talk about calling a spade a spade.
On MSNBC's NOW Wednesday, PBS's Jeff Greenfield called host Alex Wagner as well as the MSNBC contributors on the panel - David Corn, Joy Reid, and Katrina vanden Heuvel - "advocates" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
JEFF GREENFIELD, PBS: One of the things that struck me about Obama when he came out – and frankly, I’ve felt this about the President since he was campaigning - he talks too much.
ALEX WAGNER, HOST: So you think he should be less transparent?
GREENFIELD: No wait - a 28 minute speech is 26 minutes too long about what happened, surrounded by the same kind of, you know, human props, that poor pregnant diabetic who almost collapsed. It was too long. It was, what he might have learned from Winston Churchill was to begin by saying, “We screwed up.”
KATRINA VANDEN HEUVEL, THE NATION: But he did say that.
GREENFIELD: “We screwed up, we screwed up, and we are going to fix it.” I’ll tell you the other thing, look, I realize, you know, sometimes networks can be, I want to just, want to be a counter-arguer.
[Laughter]
WAGNER: You’re allowed to do whatever you want.
GREENFIELD: Because I don’t represent myself, I represent myself as a humble country journalist, not an advocate. But what you said…
WAGNER: I think many people at this table would consider themselves journalists, too, not advocates.
GREENFIELD: Who are also advocates.
WAGNER: No, we’re not.
GREENFIELD: [Turning to Vanden Heuvel] Progressives and liberals.
VANDEN HEUVEL: [Nods]
WAGNER: We can get into that discussion later.

MSM's Bias Continues to Help Elect Obama: Aggressive on 'Secret Romney Tape' But Lax on O's Failed Foreign and Economic Policies

NBC’s Williams Jumps to Highlight Surreptitiously-Recorded Romney Comments, Insists They Will ‘Raise Eyebrows When Heard’
Once again serving as the broadcast arm of MSNBC, Monday’s NBC Nightly News devoted a full segment to the supposed outrage over what Mitt Romney said in a surreptitiously-recorded video promoted by the left wing Mother Jones magazine, remarks which Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow put at the top of their MSNBC shows. And CNN soon joined in the hysteria with Anderson Cooper 360 treating it as “Breaking News.”

Of course, Romney had simply provided an obvious assessment of the state of the electorate where many have an “entitlement” mentality and nearly half avoid the income tax.

In an online post, David Corn of Mother Jones, who appeared on Hardball, summarized Romney’s comments:

During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them.
And the inaccuracy is?

Nonetheless, NBC anchor Brian Williams insisted “the GOP presidential candidate is heard giving a snapshot of the electorate that is going to raise eyebrows when heard.” Williams correctly observed, without acknowledging how NBC had taken a side:  “It’s another eye of the beholder issue, people will make what they make of these comments coming out tonight.”
