NBC’s David Gregory Begs Public To Give Obama Credit For Economy, Claims It’s “Getting Better”… -

This week's Mainstream Media Scream features NBC's David Gregory complaining on NBC's State of the Union coverage and his "Meet The Press" Sunday show that President Obama isn't getting the credit for the economy, which he said “is getting better.”
Near the beginning of NBC's State of the Union coverage, he insisted “the economy's getting better,” declaring: “That's what this president had to do. He had to make the economy better. And, yet he's not getting a lot of credit for it.”
Then, on the Feb. 2 "Meet the Press", Gregory fretted to White House chief of staff Denis McDonough: “Do you ever wonder why the president doesn’t get more credit for an economy that is rebounding? What’s the disconnect there?”
Media Research Center Vice President of Research and Publications Brent Baker explains our pick: “The disconnect is Gregory’s disconnect from reality. To whatever extent the economy is slightly improving, it’s despite Obama’s policies, such as the burdens and uncertainties of Obamacare. President Reagan fixed the economy within three years, yet the media continuously derided “Reaganomics.” Obama has yet to achieve Reagan’s success, but journalists like Gregory never deride ‘Obamanomics.’”
Rating: Four out of five screams.

All Three Networks Fret Over Obama Not Getting 'Credit' for 'Better' Economy

Minutes before the President began his State of the Union address Tuesday night, hosts on ABC, NBC, and CBS all worried that Obama was not getting the "credit" he deserved for how well the economy was supposedly doing. [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Talking to former Obama advisor David Plouffe during ABC's live coverage of the speech, Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos argued: "...one of the real puzzles the President has to solve tonight, the economy, doing about as well as it's ever done in his presidency, as he comes into the chamber tonight, but most people don't believe it and don't give him credit for it."
Over on NBC at the same time, Meet the Press host David Gregory was complaining: "Look, the economy's getting better. That's what this president had to do, he had to make the economy better. And, yet he's not getting a lot of credit for it."On CBS, Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer observed: "I thought The New York Times had a good headline today on one of their things, it said the economy has rarely been better, but the approval ratings have rarely been worse.
People seem to favor many of the programs that the President wants to pass, but they are worried and concerned about whether he can actually – actually get it done."The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed 60% of Americans believe the nation is heading in the wrong direction, 68% think the country is in the same place or worse than when Obama took office, and 70% are dissatisfied with the economy.

[VIDEO] PELOSI: “A LOT OF HOOPDEY-DOO AND ADO” ABOUT OBAMACARE

Christmas came early for the Republicans as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi – the most repulsive figure in American politics, although Senate Majority Leader Harry “Why would I want to help kids with cancer?” Reid gives her a strong run for her money – sallied forth onto NBC’s “Meet the Press” to spin the ObamaCare disaster.
Her most bizarrely memorable line came when she tried to downplay the millions of people who have lost their insurance due to ObamaCare, suggesting they’re a bunch of whining ingrates who don’t appreciate what the glorious Democrat Party has done for them.  Their complains about to the squalling of colicky infants – just a lot of “hoopdey-doo” from people who don’t understand that it’s wonderful their old insurance plans are gone, despite Obama’s fulsome promises to the contrary, and they’ll now be able to buy inferior ObamaCare coverage packed with “benefits” they don’t want at triple the price.
“And so while there’s a lot of hoopdey-doo and ado about what’s happening now – very appropriate – I’m not criticizing,” said Pelosi, apparently believing that ObamaCare’s angry victims would be mollified if she just threw that “very appropriate” qualifier in there.  ”I’m saying it took a great deal for us to pass this bill.  I said as we go up to the gate and the gate is locked, we’ll unlock the gate; if we can’t do that, we’ll climb the fence; if the fence is too high, we’ll pole vault in; if we can’t do that, we’ll helicopter in, but we’ll get it done.”

John Kerry Has JFK Conspiracy Theory; Won’t Elaborate When Pressed by NBC’s David Gregory

In a recent interview with NBC, Secretary of State John Kerry revealed that he is a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. When pressed Sunday for more details on that, however, the former senator refused, deeming it inappropriate for him to divulge his thoughts on the matter.
NBC’s Meet the Press host David Gregory quoted Kerry as having recently said “To this day, I have serious doubts that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone” in killing JFK 50 years ago this month.
Noting that a high-ranking official holding such views would be “surprising” to many Americans, Gregory asked: “Would you care to elaborate?”
“No,” Kerry flatly responded. “I just have a point of view. And I’m not going to get into that. It’s not something that I think needs to be commented on, and certainly not at this time.”
Gregory pressed on anyhow, asking Kerry whether he feels some of the conspiracy theories are “valid” at some level.
“I’m not going to go into it,” the secretary reiterated. “It’s just inappropriate, and I’m not going to do more than say that it’s a point of view that I have. But it’s not right, or worthy, or appropriate for me to comment further.”

Insurance CEO Defends Obamacare: ‘We’re Not Cutting People, We’re Transitioning People’

Florida Blue CEO Patrick Geraghty appeared onMeet the Press Sunday morning and defended Obamacare, telling host David Gregory that the 300,000 figure—the number of people being dropped from the insurance rolls, a number being used as evidence that President Barack Obama was not correct when he said people would get to keep their insurance—was not an accurate representation of the Affordable Care Act’s effects.
“We’re not cutting people,” Geraghty said. “We’re actually transitioning people. What we’ve been doing is informing folks that their plan doesn’t meet the test of the essential health benefits; therefore, they have a choice of many options that we make available through the exchange. And, in fact, with subsidy, many people will be getting better plans at a lesser cost. This really is a transition. In fact, the 300,000 figure is the entire year. So it’s really 40,000 people for January 1, and we’re walking them through that transition.”
Gregory pressed Geragthy on a number issues, including whether people would experience “sticker shock” as a result of the ACA’s effect on prices, and whether Florida Blue and other insurance companies had warned the administration about problems with the website before it went live, warnings that went unheeded. Geraghty defended the White House, saying subsequent meetings with the insurance industry had been productive.
“We’re not looking backwards,” Geraghty replied. “I think it really is about how do we move forward and solve this? We serve millions of people across the state of Florida. It would be a distraction for me to spend my time looking backwards. I spend my time figuring out, how do we serve the people in Florida that were trying to bring most education about their options so they can help their families?”
“I’ll respectfully point out I didn’t get the answer to the question I was looking for,” Gregory said.

David Gregory: Embarrassing ‘Caricature of Incompetence’ on Obamacare

There is practically no safe haven for the White House these days, thanks to the disastrous rollout of Obamacare that has led many on MSNBC to aim some friendly fire at the Obama administration. OnMorning Joe Friday, David Gregory brought up the “caricature of incompetence” in the White House over Obamacare and dared to ask if it shows that the health care law is simply too big for the White House to actually handle.
He asked, “Is Obamacare doomed if they can’t fix this fast?” Gregory argued that there is a “caricature of incompetence that could be associated with Obamacare for a long time because of such a bad start,” and Republicans may have undersold, in part, how bad Obamacare was going to be.
Gregory also said down the road, the White House may face this far more provocative question about the Affordable Care Act: “Is it too big, too complicated for the federal government to administer?”

[VIDEO]DAVID GREGORY CALLS ON GOP SEN. TO EXPLAIN BEN CARSON’S SLAVERY/OBAMACARE COMPARISON: HERE’S HOW THE SENATOR HANDLED IT

Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) was challenged Sunday by ABC News’ David Gregory to defend (or at least explain) Dr. Benjamin Carson’s recent claim that “Obamacare is the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.”
“Is that an overstatement that’s counterproductive?” Gregory asked.
“Well, he’s a doctor who feels passionately about this issue, obviously, he can speak for himself,” Portman replied.
Gregory wanted more out of Sen. Portman.
“Is that something that, as a senior Republican, is helpful to the debate about Obamacare?” he asked.
“I think what would be helpful is if we sat down and figured out how to make this less damaging to American families and the American economy, because it is a huge problem,” the Ohio senator responded.
The senator then turned his attention to the unmitigated disaster that has been the Obamacare rollout.

NBC's Gregory: Do Obama Critics Have Same 'Resentment and Fear' as Racists 50 Years Ago?

At the top of Sunday's NBC Meet the Press, moderator David Gregory interviewed Democratic Congressman John Lewis about the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech and seized the opportunity to bash President Obama's political opponents: "...in your view, a lot of people can't get comfortable with the idea of an African American president...Do you see some of the same trappings of resentment and fear in our modern-day politics?" [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Gregory further teed up Lewis to bash conservatives: "And you even said during your speech yesterday [at the MLK speech anniversary], 'There are forces, there are people who want to take us back.' What specifically are you talking about?" Lewis ranted: "Well, I hear people over and over again saying, 'We want to take our country back.' Take it back where? Where are we going?...when I was growing up, I saw those signs that said, "White Men," "Colored Men"...Those signs are gone."
After suggesting "resentment and fear" as the motivation behind criticism of Obama, Gregory followed up: "Is that what you're warning of when you see some of those forces coming back?" Lewis replied: "Well, I think there is – some forces want to create this sense of fear. They think the country is moving too fast, and maybe becoming too progressive. The country is not the same country. We're a little browner, people are coming together. And in a short time, the minority will be the majority."
Later on the program, during an interview with Republican Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Gregory touted a sound bite of former Secretary of State Colin Powell ranting on the January 13 Meet the Press that there is "a dark vein of intolerance" in the Republican Party and that "they still sort of look down on minorities."

Following that clip, Gregory pressed Jindal: "You've heard John Lewis say that there's still not a lot of acceptance of an African American president. Calls for impeachment [of President Obama] this week that some have chalked up to racism. What's your view of a dark vein of intolerance within the GOP?"

JUST MORE WORDS: Still Not Clear On Second Term Agenda

Team Obama Spends Sunday Morning Being Asked Where And What Is Obama’s Vision For A Second Term?

OBAMA SURROGATES SPENT THEIR SUNDAY MORNING FACING QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT OBAMA WILL DO IN A SECOND TERM

NBC’s David Gregory: “ Has The President Spent More Time Trying To Disqualify Romney As An Alternative Than Affirmatively Saying What A Second Term Would Actually Look Like?” NBC’s DAVID GREGORY: “Generally, the attack that has come on this president from his opposition, from Governor Romney and from Paul Ryan, and you heard it from Senator Rubio, a lack of a second term agenda. Is it fair, that criticism? Has the president spent more time trying to disqualify Romney as an alternative than affirmatively saying what a second term would actually look like?” (NBC‘s “Meet The Press,” 10/21/12)
ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “Can You Counter It And Lay Out Exactly What President Obama Would Do In A Second Term?” GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: “He seems to be getting some traction with that argument. Can you counter it and lay out exactly what President Obama would do in a second term?” (ABC’s “This Week,” 10/21/12)
  • Stephanopoulos: “It Sounds Like What You’re Saying Is That What You Want Is More Of What We Had The Last Four Years.” (ABC’s “This Week,” 10/21/12)

OBAMA HAS HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO GIVE HIS SECOND TERM PLANS BUT VOTERS HAVE BEEN LEFT IN THE DARK

The Washington Post’s Dan Balz: Obama Has Been “Rightly Criticized For Not Being More Specific About His Second-Term Agenda.” “The president has rightly been criticized for not being more specific about his second-term agenda. What economic policies does he have that he hasn’t already tried? What is he truly prepared to do on the deficit?”(Dan Balz, “For Obama and Romney, Monday’s Debate Is Crucial,” The Washington Post, 10/20/12)
  • “Having Gone This Far, It’s Not Likely He Will Start Filling In Those Blanks In The Final Two Weeks. He Prefers To Tell Voters Why They Should Fear Romney.” (Dan Balz, “For Obama and Romney, Monday’s Debate Is Crucial,” The Washington Post, 10/20/12)
  • Obama Hasn’t Restored “A Sense Of Faith And Optimism About The Next Four Years.” “But what he also hasn’t done yet is restore a sense of faith and optimism about the next four years. That’s what Michael Jones was looking for last week, not merely a recitation of a litany of actions undertaken. It remains a missing piece in the president’s message.” (Dan Balz, “For Obama and Romney, Monday’s Debate Is Crucial,” The Washington Post, 10/20/12)
