FLORIDA REPUBLICANS RAISE BIG MONEY TO REPLACE DEMOCRAT CONGRESSMAN

The soon-to-be hotly-contested Republican primary race in Florida’s 18th congressional district will not mirror the God-awful and boring 2014 GOP primary race in this same district.

This will be a race to watch.

No one in the 2014 race was able to raise any money, except for former Rep. Carl Domino, who benefitted from the contributions he made to his campaign.

Domino went on to get clobbered by 

Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL)

 (D) by 20 percentage points in a Republican swing year election.

The 2016 primary election cycle will be different, as Republicans have raised close to $1 million.

There are six announced Republican candidates in the race, including Domino, who are ready to make a strong push to replace the outgoing Murphy. Murphy is running for the U.S. Senate in 2016.

Democrats are already getting behind Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay, a mother of three and staunch liberal Democrat, who has raised $183,000, a lot of that money coming from the liberal ActBlue non-profit,

What about these Republicans? How much did they each raise?

Here is a breakdown and analysis of all the candidates:

Carl Domino—Career Politician and Candidate

$208,000 (Loaned himself this amount, no contributions)

Announced April 2014

Domino is coming off a big election night loss to Rep. Patrick Murhpy (D). He had to drop in a lot of his own money to be competitive and was only able to raise about $300k in the entire election cycle.

Domino ran in three straight election cycles and lost. Will the fourth time be the charm?

Paul Spain—Businessman

$635 (Loan)

Announced late June 2015

Spain ran in Florida’s 22th congressional district against 

Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL)

 (D) and lost big because he wasn’t able to raise more than $10 (he raised a little bit more than that) for his congressional campaign. Spain loaned his campaign $125,000 in his 2014 losing effort.

Tod Mowery—St. Lucie County Commissioner

Announced May 2015

Mowery’s FEC report is not out yet. But according to his campaign, Mowery raised about $85k. Considering that he is a sitting county commissioner, we expect Mowery to have used his bully pulpit to raise campaign dollars from local and state special interests and small businesses with interests in St. Lucie County.

Brian Mast—Combat Wounded Vet and Fox News Favorite

Mast, the political newbie with no fundraising base and who lost both of his legs in an IED blast in Afghanistan, announced his congressional campaign with an inspiring video that landed him two Fox News TV hits. In addition to Fox, it seem as if Mast’s story is resonating around the country, as the overwhelming bulk of his donations have come from individuals outside of the district.

Mast could pose a real threat in this congressional district that is heavy with military veterans. Even Democrats are saying that Mast could be the one that will face McKinlay in the general election.

Mast loaned his campaign $9,499.

Can Mast keep this up?

Rick Kozell—Attorney and Establishment Republican

Kozell, one of those young Palm Beach Republicans, who was groomed in party ways, jumped in the race the same day Mast did. In the same amount of time, Kozell was able to tap into his donor base of establishment Republicans. Attorneys and lobbyists from South Florida and Washington, D.C., chipped in cash, as did his family.

Kozell was able to raise money from Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart (his former employer), the firm former U.S. Senator and then-Charlie Crist Republican George LeMieux currently runs.

According to the FEC, Kozell received $10,800 from his family. Kozell has only loaned his campaign $100.

Rebecca Negron—State Sen. Joe Negron’s Wife and Martin County School Board Member.

Announced May 2015

As expected, Negron has been able to use her husband’s bully pulpit in Tallahassee to raise money from major lobbyists and special interests beholden to her husband Sen. Joe Negron.

Senator Negron could be the next Senate president in the GOP-led state legislature, leaving many attorneys and lobbyist feeling compelled to donate to his wife.

Negron himself considered running for the U.S. Congress a few years ago, leaving many in south Florida to question if Rebecca is running as a mere place-holder for her husband.

Negron has not loaned her congressional campaign any money.

CITIZEN ARMED WITH AR-15 STANDS GUARD OUTSIDE VIRGINIA RECRUITING OFFICES

On July 17, a citizen armed with an AR-15 stood guard outside various military recruitment offices in Virginia.

The man said “fundamental Muslim extremism” is at war with us, but out leaders seem unable–or unwilling–“to put it in perspective and [realize] that the war is here.”

According to Fox 5, the man wishes to remain anonymous, but did shake hands with those who came by to thank him for standing guard.

He said those inside the recruitment offices were glad to see him too:

I went into each office, the ones that were open, and I was received with handshakes and thank yous. They constantly came by, and not only them, but their wives came by in tears thanking me for just being out here. They baked cookies for me and brought lunch by.

The unidentified man said the police stopped and “checked [him] out.” He said they were just “doing their duty” and “It was all good.”

He urged Americans to contact their Representatives and Senators and get the laws changed so Marines, soldiers, and other military personnel can defend themselves.

He said: “People need to call their [Representatives], they need to call their Senators and they need to change these laws that are on the books so these guys can protect themselves so a regular old citizen doesn’t have to go out and do it,” he told us.”

Breitbart News previously reported that Representative Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-4th) will introducing legislation to abolish military gun-free zones on July 20.

DesJarlais’ bill is titled the “Enhancing Safety At Military Installations Act.”

OBAMA’S SECRETIVE GUN BAN FOR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFICIARIES

In a the latest backdoor gun control effort put forward by the White House, President Obama is pushing to ban gun possession for Social Security beneficiaries who are incapable of handling their own finances.

The specific details of the ban are unknown, as it is being put together “outside of public view.” But the LA Times reports that a ban on gun possession due to inability to handle finances would be sweeping; that it would cover those who are unable to manage their own affairs for a multitude of reasons–from “subnormal intelligence or mental illness” to “incompetency,” an unspecified “condition,” or “disease.”

The Times notes that the finances of roughly “4.2 million” Social Security beneficiaries are handled by someone else.

Yale Psychologist Dr. Marc Rosen has seen this same tact used on US veterans and warns that those applying it to guns under the presumption that needing help with financial management equates to violent tendencies are simply mistaken. Rosen said, “Someone can be incapable of managing their funds but not be dangerous, violent or unsafe. They are very different determinations.”

The Times provides an example of 30-year-old US Marine Steve Overman. He requires help with his finances because of “weakened..memory and cognitive ability” resulting from a roadside bomb in Iraq. The “VA eventually deemed him 100% disabled and after reviewing his case in 2012 declared him incompetent, making his wife his fiduciary.”

Because of this, he had to get his guns out of his house–taking them a relative’s home–in order to avoid losing them. This same scenario could play out again–millions of times–if the Social Security Administration uses the “mental defective” categorization that the VA uses.

Under this one category alone, approximately “2.7 million” Social Security beneficiaries could lose gun rights.

, to delay plans to muscle Obamatrade through the House of Representatives quickly. In in a letter to McCarthy obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, he’s asking leadership to slow down and consider the ramifications of what it is doing.

“I write to you today to request that you delay any vote on fast-track authority for the Executive until the President has made public all text and information pertaining to the new economic union known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission, as well the ‘Living Agreement’ authority,” Hunter wrote to McCarthy, his fellow California Republican. “My concern is that this allows the President and the members of the union to change the agreement and its membership following adoption.”

Hunter’s concern is well founded.

Despite claims from some Obamatrade proponents to the contrary, if Congress approves Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) which would fast-track and all but ensure the approval of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Pacific Rim trade deal, the “Living Agreement” inside the TPP would allow President Obama and the other TPP nations to add China or any other country for that matter to the deal without seeking approval from Congress.

China, President Obama confirmed last week, has been in talks with top Obama administration officials already and is interested in becoming part of TPP. If the House approves TPA as the Senate did—thereby ensuring that TPP will approved—then that technically means, despite anything proponents of this deal say, it would be empowering China and undermining the United States.

Hunter’s letter continues by noting that the TPP Commission would create a new global governance, ceding U.S. sovereignty to foreign and global interests, something

EXCLUSIVE–DR. BEN CARSON’S FUNDRAISING NUMBERS: MORE THAN $5.2 MILLION SINCE EARLY MARCH

Dr. Ben Carson’s presidential campaign shared his early fundraising numbers exclusively with Breitbart News, proving that he—like many other 2016 conservative presidential candidates—will be a force to be reckoned with on the campaign trail.

The numbers provided to Breitbart News in the middle of last week and published here for the first time, show that Carson has raised at least $5.2 million since his launch back in early May. Spokesman Doug Watts told Breitbart News that the $5.2 million since March 3, when Carson launched his exploratory committee, came “predominantly in small donations,” with $52 being the average.

Carson’s campaign is on the brink of surpassing 100,000 total donors—meaning that many people have given him money for his presidential campaign run—since March 3, as well. Since April 1—this fundraising quarter’s beginning—Carson’s team has raised $3 million. From March 3 until now, Carson’s team has pulled in $1.6 million in direct mail and about $600,000 over phones.

Since Carson launched his official presidential campaign on May 4 in Detroit, his team tells Breitbart News he’s raised $1.8 million in online fundraising. And over the past 18 months, all of Carson’s both official and unofficial committees—which include Carson America Exploratory, RBR, and the leadership PAC USA First—have pulled in $22 million.

Carson’s team is waiting for about a million pieces of mail that are currently out in stream right now to come back in, as well, meaning that the already-proven-prolific fundraiser will be pulling in quite a bit more cash very soon.
