Amazon says it sold 426 items a second on Cyber Monday

AmazonAND OBAMACARE SOLD ONE POLICY EVERY 426 SECONDS

Amazon.com sold almost 37 million items on Cyber Monday, a pace of 426 a second to be exact.

The sales tally for Dec. 2 was one of a number of statistics the Seattle online retailer announced on Thursday.

It did not reveal how sales compared to last year's Cyber Monday, but said that overall holiday season sales were its best ever.

The company also said that it shipped items to customers in 185 countries during the holidays. Additionally, Amazon said 50% of its customers used mobile devices to do their holiday shopping.
As for Christmas sales, it did not say how many of its packages may have missed the Dec. 24 delivery. UPS and FedEx on Thursday said they were still scrambling to deliver packages that did not arrive in time for Christmas.
The shipping giants blamed the missed deadline on heavy holiday shipping volume and bad weather in some parts of the country.
Here are some other oddball statistics that Amazon released in its press release:
  • Enough Crayola Marker Makers were sold to draw a line around the world four times.
  • Enough Hot Wheels cars were purchased to stretch around the Daytona International Speedway.
  • Enough miniature flashlights were bought to light up four football fields to NCAA standards.
  • Enough Himalyan Crystal Lamps were purchased that if they were each stacked on one another their collective height

Walmart — 1 Billion Page Views On Cyber Monday, Healthcare.gov Dies Under 50k

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. ( WMT ) said it posted record online sales on Cyber Monday, while its Internet sales from Thanksgiving Day through Monday marked the retail giant's strongest five-day stretch of sales to date.

Wal-Mart's website processed more than a billion page views during the period, the company said in a statement.

"We had an all-time record sales day yesterday as the momentum we saw on Thanksgiving carried through to Cyber Monday," said Joel Anderson, president and CEO of Walmart.com U.S., although specific sales figures weren't provided.

Last week Wal-Mart, which launched its Thanksgiving Day deals two hours earlier than last year, said it had recorded more than 10 million register transactions between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday in its stores and nearly 400 million page views that day on its website. The company said electronics, such as big screen TVs, iPad minis, laptops and new game systems Xbox One and PS4 were among the top sellers.

In addition to televisions and tablets, Wal-Mart said Tuesday that top sellers included Fisher Price Power Wheels Red Ford F150 Raptor Ride-Ons and Mega Bloks First Builders Build 'n Learn Table play sets.

Wal-Mart plans to offer 200 specials a day on its website through Friday.
The retail industry's main trade group earlier reported retail spending over Thanksgiving weekend dropped for the first time in at least seven years, as retailers kicked off sales earlier on Thanksgiving Day and touted discounts all week. Estimated total spending over Thanksgiving weekend fell to $57.4 billion, down 2.7% from a year ago, according to the National Retail Federation.

Shares were down seven cents at $81.04 in recent trading.

Heritage releases witty Thanksgiving cards poking fun at Obamacare, ‘Let’s Move’

What do you have to be thankful for this year? Your family? Your job? That the First Lady isn’t keeping a watchful eye on how much pumpkin pie you eat?
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank , has released a set of six Thanksgiving cards that poke fun at the Affordable Care Act and Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative that promotes healthy eating and exercise. The cards are a cheeky way to “express exactly what we can all be thankful for this year,” according to the website.
The Heritage email blast also recommended sending a card to “that really annoying liberal in your life.”
One of the cards makes fun of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, while another card mocks the glitches of HealthCare.gov. See a couple of the cards below, and check out the Heritage website to see them all — and send one or two to your friends and family!
