[VIDEO] Democrats Plan to Shut Down the Federal Government

“We’re headed for another shutdown.”

Those words from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) confirm what Democrats have been planning behind closed doors for weeks: they are getting ready to shut down the federal government.
But why? Why would they do this?
It's because they are demanding "more money" for things like the IRS and the EPA.  And unless they get what they want, they are willing to block funding for everything else - including a pay raise for our troops.

Senator Reid even said it was a "waste of time" to support our troops.  He's wrong.  Democrats should save the politics for another day and instead, support a pay raise for our military and their families.

DEMS PUSH TO TAKE UP AMNESTY, SAY BOEHNER WILL CAVE

On Thursday, President Obama took to the White House podium to triumphantly announce the end of the government shutdown. In doing so, he proclaimed that he wanted to push forward with other legislative priorities, including a budget, immigration reform, and the long-stalled pork-laden farm bill.

“[I]n the coming days and weeks, we should sit down and pursue a balanced approach to a responsible budget, a budget that grows our economy faster and shrinks our long-term deficits further,” Obama stated. Historically, “balanced” has been code for tax increases.
Obama then pushed on to immigration reform: “Number two. We should finish the job of fixing our broken immigration system.” Naturally, he blamed the Republican House for stalling his preferred immigration bill.
Finally, Obama called for the farm bill to be passed: “Number three. We should pass a farm bill, one that American farmers and ranchers can depend on, one that protects vulnerable children and adults in times of need, one that gives rural communities opportunities to grow and the long-term certainty that they deserve.” And, disingenuously, he called for negotiations.

Leftist Fox Contributor Jehmu Greene Jokes About Drowning Ted Cruz, John Boehner

Viewers of Fox News Channel's popular weeknight Hannity program got an unwelcome surprise during the Tuesday edition of the show, when liberal contributor Jehmu Greene tried to be funny by asking: “If [GOP Texas senator] Ted Cruz and [House majority leader] John Boehner were both on a sinking ship, who would be saved?” Her shocking answer: “America.”

As you might expect, it didn't take long for posters on Twitter to come out swinging.
“Jehmu's mean-spirited joke about drowning just fell flat, even with her Dem colleagues,” @Solameanie stated, while @asskickmchotti noted that the liberal's attempt at comedy was “so effing tacky!”

@CherylRenetteBa referred to “that little joke” as “inappropriate. She is stupid and looks foolish.”

Along those lines, @widdawisa said the remark “was rude.” In addition, @RuBEgonia tossed the joke back into the liberal commentator's face: “Your joke went down with the ship.”

@mazzeo_larry responded to the liberal's attempt at comedy by saying:
I had respect for Ms. Greene, but after her joke on Hannity tonight, not so much. Disappointed now.
@RBPundit took the discussion in another direction when he noted that Greene “stole” the gag from Politico's Roger Simon, who wrote a hateful column entitled “Government shutdown unleashes racism.” In that article, Simon asked if his joke was harsh and replied by stating:
Look around you at what is happening to America, and you will see harsh. I am not talking about closed parks and monuments. I am talking about the funds cut to nearly 9 million mothers and young children for food, breastfeeding support and infant formula.

And for what? Because Cruz, Republican senator from Texas, has grown so drunk on the sound of his own voice and so besotted with illusions of his own grandeur that he believes halting government today will propel him into the White House tomorrow.
Of course, the shutdown of 17 percent of the federal government was all “the Republicans' fault" despite the fact that the Democrats control both the Senate and the White House. In addition, it's not uncommon for liberals to first cut off services deemed essential by the voters. Often, the Democrats cry a river over the fact that essential personnel -- usually policemen, teachers and fire fighters -- are laid off while people including the desk jockeys quietly remain on the job.
Meanwhile, Greene attempted to double down on her misfire by also posting on Twitter and admitting she got the joke from the Politico columnist.

“I knew the answer to @jehmu's joke 'cause we've already heard it,” @MitchBehna posted. “But she got mixed up. It's Obama, Pelosi, Biden on the boat.”

BOEHNER: REID WANTS 'COMPLETE' GOP SURRENDER

Appearing the October 6th airing of This Week With George Stephanopoulos, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) wants "complete surrender" by the GOP as a prerequisite for meaningful negotiations.

After, Stephanopoulos said, "Reid said he is more than willing to have a conference, more than willing to have a negotiation, but not under the threat of a government shutdown."
Boehner responded: "So it's 'my way or the highway,' that's what [Reid] is saying. Complete surrender, and then we'll talk to you."
Boehner added: "It's about having a conversation. I gave the Senate Majority Leader some advice at the White House about how to proceed. I gave him some advice over a week ago... And yet, they refuse to do it."
Stephanopoulos then said that Reid claims Boehner offered to pass a clean government-funding resolution in July. It had no Obamacare amendments and it was $70 billion below what the Senate wanted yet Reid accepted it. Reid now claims Boehner has gone back on it.
Boehner responded: "Clearly, there was a conversation about doing this... But I and my members decided that the threat of Obamacare and what was happening was so important that it was time for us to take a stand. And we took a stand."
Boehner said the House GOP is "unified" in its opposition to the dangers posed by Obamacare.

Boehner: House will not pass bill to re-open govenment until Obama agrees to negotiate

Speaker John Boehner said Sunday that the House of Representatives will not pass bills to re-open the federal government or raise the debt limit unless President Barack Obama comes to the negotiating table.
“He knows what my phone number is, all he has to do is call,” Boehner, R-Ohio said on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
In his first extended TV interview since the government shut down closed Tuesday, a defiant Boehner placed the blame for the fiscal impasse firmly on Obama, who has refused to sit down with House Republicans until they re-open the government.
"The president just can’t sit there and say, ‘I’m not going to negotiate,' " Boehner said.
Boehner said that there aren't enough members in the Republican-led House to simply re-open the government with no other strings attached.
"There are not votes in the House to pass a clean (continuing resolution)," Boehner said.
But Democrats immediately called that claim false, arguing that 195 Democrats and 21 Republicans are ready to vote for that bill.
"Put it on the floor, and let's see if you're right," Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. said to Boehner in an interview on ABC.
Boehner said he worked with members to come up with the strategy to tie government funding to a delay of the new health care law, dubbed Obamacare, large portions of which into effect Tuesday. But some members of even his own party say that Boehner is moving forward on a path he opposes at the behest of conservative Republicans.
"I, in working with my members decided to this, in a unified way," he said.

High drama on Capitol Hill as tempers flare, leaders meet with Obama

President Obama held an emergency meeting with congressional leaders Wednesday to try and find a way out of the budget stalemate -- but over on Capitol Hill, tempers were flaring and lawmakers were melting down on the floor of the House.
Lawmakers spent the evening shouting at each other, as they considered a series of votes on mini-spending bills but got no closer to a deal that could re-open the entire government. In perhaps the most intense exchange, Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., repeatedly accused his GOP colleagues of waging "jihad" on Americans.
Miller, who was a champion of the federal health care law when it was being drafted, claimed Republicans who are now complaining about the national parks being closed did not show the same concern over health care. He said: "When you were on the jihad against Americans' access to health care, shutting down the parks wasn't a problem. Shutting down NIH wasn't a problem."
Miller was then ruled "out of order." After he left the floor, Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, said he was "disgusted" by Miller's comments.
"We should all reject his comments," Simpson said, adding that Miller should be formally censured "but I won't call for it."
The House was considering a suite of mini-spending bills. On Wednesday evening, the chamber approved one bill to fund the National Park Service, on a 252-173 vote, and another bill to fund the National Institutes of Health, on a 254-171 vote.

Tea Party Republicans flex muscle, put Boehner in tight spot as shutdown looms

House Speaker John Boehner once again finds himself caught in the middle of a Capitol brawl between Tea Party Republicans and his Democratic counterparts, as he tries to navigate the choppy political waters and prevent a government shutdown at the end of the month.

Tea Party-aligned members of Boehner's caucus are flexing their muscle and pressuring him to allow a vote on an anti-ObamaCare measure as part of ongoing budget talks. They want the vote tied directly to the budget measure, and rejected a compromise plan earlier this week -- leaving unclear how Congress might pass a short-term spending bill before funding runs out on Sept. 30.

Boehner, after meeting with bipartisan congressional leaders on Thursday morning, offered no hint of what the next step might be. In the face of heated intra-party squabbling -- and even nastier accusations flying between Republican and Democrats -- he projected cool.

"There's all this speculation about these deadlines that are coming up. I'm well aware of the deadlines. So are my colleagues," he said. "And so we're working with our colleagues to work our way through these issues. I think there's a way to get there. ... There are a million options that are being discussed by a lot of people."

What happens if the debt ceiling isn't raised?

The Treasury has been up against the debt ceiling since May 19. But Secretary Jack Lew warned last week that his ability to create headroom under the $16.7 trillion limit will run out in mid-October. The threat facing the Treasury, and the nation, is what happens then if Congress doesn’t raise the limit.
In the worst-case scenario, the government fails to make payments on the interest on its debt, an outcome that could create a global financial crisis.
Yet Congress is not close to lifting the limit. With just a few weeks to go, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, is demanding spending cuts in return for the House voting to raise the ceiling, while President Obama is saying he won’t negotiate over the government paying its debts.
What if Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling in time? The following is a stage-by-stage guide to the consequences that would unfold if the cap isn't raised. It is based on the last brush with the debt ceiling in 2011 as well as earlier episodes — the debt ceiling has been raised 78 times since 1960.

Extraordinary measures

The Treasury currently is paying all of the government’s bills without issuing new debt by engaging in what it calls “extraordinary measures.” By manipulating accounts and postponing scheduled intra-government transfers, the Treasury can eliminate the need to issue bonds to finance those needs, and instead use newly issued bonds to pay obligations as they come due, without adding to the level of debt.

GOP Congressman to Boehner: Call House Back Now to Deal With Syria

Rep. Scott Rigell(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Scott Rigell (R.-Va.)--who served six years in the Marine Corps Reserves, sits on the House Armed Services Committee, and represents the congressional district with the largest concentration of military personnel of any in the nation--said today he is calling on House Speaker John Boehner to call the House back into session to prevent President Barack Obama from usurping Congress’s constitutional authority to authorize—or not authorize—the use of military force in Syria.
“He should be calling the House back right now,” Rigell said of Boehner. “I will be clear on this.”
"I do have a call scheduled with one of our senior leaders this afternoon and I will be making that case," said Rigell. "I think we're at this point, and I regret that we're at this point. But that is where we are."
Rigell sent a letter to President Obama today—co-signed by a bipartisan group of “over 100” House members--reminding the president that it is “clearly delineated” in the Constitution that the president must seek congressional authorization before using military force unless the use of force is needed to protect the United States from an attack.
“While the Founders wisely gave the Office of the President the authority to act in emergencies, they foresaw the need to ensure public debate—and the active engagement of Congress—prior to committing U.S. military assets,” Rigell wrote. “Engaging our military in Syria when no direct threat to the United States exists and without prior congressional authorization would violate the separation of powers that is clearly delineated in the Constitution.”

Tea party: Obamacare is now ‘BoehnerCare’

**FILE** House Speaker John Boehner, Ohio Republican, takes questions from reporters at a Capitol Hill news conference on Aug. 1, 2013, as Congress prepares to leave Washington for a five-week recess. (Associated Press)
Tea party activists are planning to rally outside of House Speaker John A. Boehner’s Ohio office on Tuesday, telling the Republican speaker that if he doesn’t use this year’s spending fight to defund the health care law, it will hence be known to them as “BoehnerCare.”

“If he funds it, he will own it,” said Janet Porter, president of Faith2Action, one of the groups participating in the rally.

Republicans have routinely called the health law Obamacare, and even President Obama has embraced the term, using it himself as recently as last week in talking about the benefits, which are slated to kick in fully next year.

But Mr. Boehner now finds himself in the cross-hairs. Earlier this summer members of Congress got themselves and their staffs exempted from having to pay out of their own pockets for the health “exchanges,” though they will still be forced out of their government plans and into the health marketplaces.

Now, many of his rank-and-file members want to use this year’s spending bills to defund the health law altogether — something Democrats and Mr. Obama have said is a non-starter and will force them to reject all of the spending bills, leading to a government shutdown.
