REP. GOHMERT: ‘TRUMP HAS STRUCK A NERVE ACROSS AMERICA’

Representative
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX)
94%
shared in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News his experience meeting with family members of victims killed by illegal aliens.

The loved ones of the victims came to Washington, D.C. for a hearing on Kate’s Law and meetings with several legislators concerning the epidemic of illegal immigration into the United States.
Gohmert said that 2016 Presidential candidate Donald Trump has struck a nerve across America on the issue of illegal immigration, because he isn’t beholden to big business and special interests. Gohmert then cited Congressional efforts to bring financial repercussions on sanctuary cities for their blatant violation of federal law.
“I read about them (families whose loved ones have been killed by illegal aliens) in the news and I had also read they were coming up here to testify and the stories just break your heart. You don’t have to have had a child to understand how tragic these situations were and then the fact that they were completely avoidable makes them even more so.”
Gohmert took a group of about ten of these family members, some who came from as far as California, on a tour of the United States Capitol Tuesday evening. “I had first met them right after they testified before the Senate hearing and so we met and we had a visit outside and invited them inside the Capitol and we met, visited and talked and there were tears.”
Sabine Durden lost her only son Dominic Durden when an illegal alien hit the young 911 operator in a traffic collision. She told Breitbart News how appreciative she was of the Texas Congressman’s time and care for the families.
Gohmert said, “We talked and I heard from them on the different stories and what happened and how avoidable these were and that they could still have their child or family member here with them alive if we enforced our immigration laws.”
When asked if meeting the family members drove his conviction about the problem of illegal immigration, Gohmert said, “This reinforces the need to do something and reinvigorates me to make sure that we get something done so that we don’t have to keep meeting people who lose children, lose family members, lose spouses that are completely avoidable.” He said, “We just need to enforce immigration law.”
“This is something that every one of the family members of victims that I met and talked with, they’re affected every single day of their life. It’s just something that’s never far from their thoughts at all.”
Gohmert noted the need to enforce visa overstays and current immigration laws as well as securing the border. Border security is about 60 percent of the problem, Gohmert noted.
“If we just had an administration that enforced the law as it exists and that includes protecting the border, making sure that people don’t come in illegally,” he said it could take care of itself.
Referencing his experience as a judge, he noted the effect of deterrence by having something like Kate’s Law that is intended to put people in jail for coming back in after they are deported.
“Donald Trump has struck a nerve across America.”

Gohmert: The Founders' American Dream ‘Was Rooted in Religious Freedom’

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) says, the American Dream of our Founding Fathers “was not centered on a paycheck, or a job or a house. It was not anchored in government control or climbing the ladder of political power - it was rooted in religious freedom.”
The Texas Republican recently appeared in a video for America Proud where he discusses the importance of recognizing religious freedom during the month that we celebrate the birth of the nation.

Here is an excerpt of Gohmert’s comments;
“The United States has served as a beacon of light for millions across the globe because it represents a place of freedom, hope and exceptionalism.
However, it’s important to note the reason our Founding Fathers fought for such liberty and justice for all. Their American Dream was not centered on a paycheck, or a job or a house. It was not anchored in government control or climbing the ladder of political power - it was rooted in religious freedom.
They longed for a land that would allow them along with all others to worship without fear of retribution or retaliation. This was their highest aspiration, religious freedom. They knew that if they had religious freedom that all the other freedoms would flow out of that. They also knew that if they were faithful, divine providence would guide them and make the new nation viable.
In fact Alexander Hamilton, George Washington’s closest aide during the revolution, was not only a part of the important, early proceedings - he was there beside Ben Franklin during the Constitutional Convention and made an insightful assessment of the new nation’s founding. He said this - 'for my own part I sincerely esteem it a system that without finger of God never could never have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests.'”
Gohmert continues, “Like Alexander Hamilton, most of the founders were all passionate about forming a nation based on democracy and laying a solid framework, which in turn, left behind a beautiful legacy of biblical adherence and providential inspiration.”
“So it’s my prayer that we celebrate this nation’s long-standing birthday with the remembrance of why men loaded their muskets, drew their swords and shed their blood -to build a nation on the solid rock composed of our first freedom, religious liberty.”

Gohmert to BLM: ‘Keep Up The Arrogance’ - We’ll Cut Your Budget

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told two federal land officials, “I come bearing good news. I think if your employees keep up the arrogance, keep denying access to the land then very soon we’ll be able to dramatically cut your employees back and start turning those powers over to the states.”
Gohmert’s comments came during a Joint Legislative Hearing "To protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, and shooting, and for other purposes” in late May.
Deputy Director of Operations for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Steve Ellis and Deputy Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, Leslie Weldon testified at the hearing and heard complaints about denial of access onto National Forest Service and BLM land from sportsmen and law enforcement.
“Today, I wanted to take advantage of your presence here by letting you know things I’ve been hearing,” Gohmert said. “About the arrogance of people on U.S. Forest Service land and (Dept. of) Interior land – national forests - even from law enforcement, they say it’s just gotten tougher and tougher to deal with arrogant people on the national forests. Not getting access when they need it, not working with local law enforcement. And that’s been really helpful to me.”
“Some of us have been pushing for a while- let’s just dramatically cut back the U.S. Forest Service, the BLM, the Department of Interior and let each state manage the federal land within it’s boundaries.”
Gohmert later added, “I guess maybe from your standpoint it might be seen as a warning, from my standpoint it’s really good news that the arrogance of both of your employees are ultimately going to allow us to get the next president, Republican or Democrat, to end up eventually signing legislation that lets our states  - they’ll do a much better job at managing your land then your departments have been doing.”

Congressman wants Justice Department to investigate raid on reporter’s home

A Republican congressman is calling on the Justice Department to investigate why state and federal law enforcement raided the home of a veteran investigative reporter and confiscated a stack of her confidential files in August.
“This is unbelievable,” Republican Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert said during remarks on the floor of the House this week. “This is happening in America.”
The Daily Caller broke the news last week that the confidential files of freelance journalist Audrey Hudson, a former reporter for the Washington Times, were taken by the Department of Homeland Security during a predawn raid of her Shady Side, Md. home on Aug. 6. The raid was carried out due to an unrelated criminal case.
On Tuesday, Gohmert read excerpts from that article on the floor of the U.S. House and expressed outrage over the incident.
“I would say that if the subpoena did not allow for them to take her notes pertaining to DHS whistleblowers that provided this reporter information, it begs the question that perhaps these law enforcement officers acting under color of State law or Federal law stole these without due process,” Gohmert said.
“It bears looking into,” he added.
But the Texas Republican expressed a lack of confidence that the Justice Department would actually investigate the incident and “do justice in such an abuse of power.”
“That doesn’t seem to be the case,” Gohmert said.

Rep. Gohmert Battles Fox Host Over ‘Clean’ Funding Bill: ‘Clean is Pretty Nasty’

Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) battled Fox News host Arthel Neville over whether the GOP shared any blame for the government shutdown and potential debt ceiling breach, arguing that President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats had refused multiple offers to negotiate.
“The party’s brand was hurt with TARP,” Gohmert said, “was hurt with so many things, but especially two and a half years ago when we made an offer to cut some of the massive overspending, and the President and Harry Reid (D-NV) said, ‘Nope, it’s our way or the highway.’”
“You’re not saying that either, Congressman?” Neville said. “Let’s have some honest talk here.”
Gohmert insisted that the dishonesty had been entirely Reid’s. “Harry Reid saying that there’s a bunch of firebrands and radicals in the House?” he alleged. “That’s not the case. We are together, but the hijacking has been the U.S. Senate by left-wing radicals who want to keep spending grandchildren’s money.”
Neville repeatedly try to keep the conversation moving. “I appreciate your passion,” she said. “And of course we’re not suggesting—Everybody has great suggestions. We have to mix and match.”
“No, you’re wrong there, you’re wrong there!” Gohmert interrupted. “Tell me what the president has suggested. Tell me what Harry Reid has suggested. They have not made one good suggestion, not one, other than total capitulation.”
“Any way out of this, sir?” Neville asked.
“Yes!” Gohmert said. “Have them start compromising. We’ve compromised over and over. We got to the point where we said, ‘Okay, here’s the deal. Here’s our negotiators’ conferees. That’s what the law requires.’ Harry Reid would not even appoint conferees as the law requires.”
“They asked you to come back to the table with some clean suggestions,” Neville responded.
“Clean is not clean,” Gohmert said. “It’s pretty nasty.”
As Neville went to break, she assured the audience that she had not cut Gohmert’s mic, as he was still speaking.

[VIDEO] : Reps. Bachmann, Gohmert, King Thank Egypt for Overthrowing ‘Evil’ Muslim Brotherhood

With all eyes on Syria this weekend, Reps. Michele Bachmman (R-MN), Louie Gohmert (R-TX) andSteve King (R-IA) traveled to Egypt to deliver a highly unconventional message of support to the Egyptian military for eradicating “common enemy” the Muslim Brotherhood.
In a 15 minute news conference-style video broadcast over a pro-government satellite network and shown by Egyptian state media, Bachmann announced, “We are here as members of Congress to say, ‘We are with you, and we encourage you.’” She proceeded to falsely associate the Muslim Brotherhood with the September 11th, 2001 attacks, saying, “We have seen the threat that the Muslim Brotherhood has posed around the world. We stand against this great evil. We remember who caused 9/11. We remember who it was that killed 3,000 brave Americans.”
She described the “terrorists who have shown themselves so recently in the form of the Muslim Brotherhood” as a “common enemy” for the U.S. and Egypt, adding, “We don’t have a choice. They must be defeated.”
Subsequent comments from Gohmert and King were no less damning, with Gohmert vowing to protect American military aid to Egypt to help combat the “bloodthirsty Muslim brothers.”
One expert on Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood, political scientist at the University of Oklahoma Samer Shehata told The New York Times that the video resembled “a Saturday Night Live skit–unbelievable, ludicrous, almost comic if it wasn’t so painful.”
All three of the tea party-affiliated lawmakers have been on record denouncing the Muslim Brotherhood at home, but this was the first time any American officials had made such strong comments on the matter in Egypt. Bachmann made accusations about Hillary Clinton aide (and Anthony Weiner’s wife) Huma Abedin’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood last year. King has made similar suggestionsabout President Obama himself. And Gohmert has proposed that the FBI is working with the Muslim Brotherhood to impose Sharia law in America.
