[VIDEO] Donald Trump calls out Mark Zuckerberg on immigration

Donald Trump has a new target for his criticism of the nation's immigration policies - Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Trump said he wants to require employers to pay H-1B workers much more money, which he said would discourage companies from hiring them and boost job prospects for Americans. He also wants to have tech jobs offered to unemployed Americans before they can be filled by workers with H-1B visas.

"This will improve the number of black, Hispanic and female workers in Silicon Valley who have been passed over in favor of the H-1B program. Mark Zuckerberg's personal Senator, Marco Rubio, has a bill to triple H-1Bs that would decimate women and minorities," Trump wrote in his immigration plan. Rubio is also seeking the Republican nomination for president.

Zuckerberg started a public interest group called Fwd.us to push for immigration and lobbying reform along with Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. Neither Facebook(FB, Tech30) nor Fwd.us had an immediate comment on Trump's criticism of Zuckerberg.

Trump says that there are plenty of graduates with degrees in science, technology, engineering and math, known as STEM, to fill tech jobs. That means that employers don't need H-1B visas to fill jobs, and are using them instead to keep wages low.

Employers are supposed to pay a typical wage to anyone hired under a H-1B visa. But in reality, employees on these visas are typically paid 20 to 45% less than U.S. workers who they are are often replacing, said Ron Hira, a Howard University public policy professor who has studied the visa's pay scale.

"I don't think you should eliminate the H1-B program. The problem is it's being abused and it's a source of very cheap labor," said Hira.

Facebook's Zuckerberg says immigration reform 'biggest civil rights issue of our time'

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg suggested Sunday that U.S. immigration reform is “one of the biggest civil rights issues of our time.”

The 29-year-old billionaire, who has recently taken a more active role in calling for immigration reform, made the comment on ABC’s “This Week.” And he was immediately challenged by the interviewer, who suggested many Americans would likely disagree that providing a path to citizenship for some of the 11 million people living in this country illegally is a civil rights issue.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about that,” Zuckerberg responded. “A lot of them came here because they just want to work. They want to help out their families and they want to contribute.”

Zuckerberg recently founded the group FWD.us with other Silicon Valley leaders “to promote policies to keep the United States and its citizens competitive in a global economy,” according to its website.

His efforts follow the Democrat-controlled Senate earlier this year passing sweeping bipartisan reform legislation backed by President Obama.

Such legislation has stalled in the House, where Republican leaders want a more step-by-step approach to reform that begins with border security.

EXCLUSIVE - ICE AGENTS TO ZUCKERBERG: 'SUSPEND' IMMIGRATION LOBBYING, MEET WITH US

While billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to appear on ABC News's "This Week" on Sunday morning, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) National Council president Chris Crane is calling on Zuckerberg to suspend his amnesty lobbying efforts until he meets with law enforcement.

Crane, who represents about 7,000 ICE agents and support staff, made the call in a statement provided to Breitbart News exclusively. Crane referred to a letter he sent to CEOs pushing for amnesty, including Zuckerberg, in which he requested meetings with each of them to discuss the facts about immigration reform. Crane believes that Zuckerberg and those other CEOs are unaware of the effects pushing a bill like the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration bill–or something like it from House GOP leadership–would have on the country’s safety.

Crane said in the statement, provided to Breitbart News on Saturday evening:

Earlier this month, we sent a letter to the major CEOs pushing a comprehensive immigration plan asking that they meet with ICE officers. One of those on the letter was Mark Zuckerberg, who has invested considerable time and money to get proposed legislation like the Gang of Eight bill signed into law. Mr. Zuckerberg ignored the letter and meeting request from ICE law enforcement and instead met with illegal immigrants. We therefore renew our request to meet with Mr. Zuckerberg and share firsthand the knowledge and experience of ICE officers and agents who witness every day the negative impact to public safety that occurs because ICE officers are prohibited from enforcing the nation’s immigration laws. The first question I would ask Mr. Zuckerberg would be: why did you support a bill, S. 744, which legalizes aliens with extensive criminal records, including sex offenders, gang members and other violent and dangerous criminal aliens? Until Mr. Zuckerberg meets with officers and learns the truth about our immigration system, I would respectfully suggest he suspend his lobbying activities.

It is unclear if ABC News's "This Week" anchors will ask Zuckerberg about his failure to respond to the law enforcement officials’ requests for a meeting. According to ABC News's website, the interview will be about his organization, FWD.us, and "his new push for immigration reform."

ZUCKERBERG LOBBIES CONGRESS ON IMMIGRATION

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is visiting Capitol Hill to lobby members of Congress in support of comprehensive immigration overhaul legislation.

Zuckerberg was pressing his case in private meetings Wednesday and Thursday at the Capitol, including with Republican and Democratic members of House and Senate leadership.

His visit comes as the issue is stalled in the GOP-led House months after the Democratic-controlled Senate passed a sweeping bill that included more border security and eventual citizenship for millions here illegally.

Zuckerberg refused comment after meeting Wednesday with New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer. Schumer welcomed Zuckerberg's involvement and said he'd asked the Facebook leader to meet with as many Republicans as possible.

Zuckerberg already helped launch an advocacy organization, FWD.us, that's been among the most active groups on the issue.
