As protesters dressed as Nazis riot in an Athens ruled by Brussels stooges, giving the Nobel Peace Prize to the EU is beyond satire

The Nobel Peace Prize is the sacred elephant of the liberal establishment. It is sometimes awarded to good people who have done great things, but equally often to unworthy recipients as a gesture of pious hope.

The world applauded when it was presented to Martin Luther King in 1964, to Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi in 1991, to Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk two years later.

Sensible people sighed when the prize went to Henry Kissinger and Viet Cong leader Le Duc Tho in 1973, who stitched up a charade of a Vietnam peace deal as a figleaf for surrendering the country to the Communists; to Egypt’s leader Anwar Sadat and his Israeli counterpart Menachem Begin in 1978 for their Middle East deal which brought no lasting peace; and to Barack Obama in 2009 for his commitment to ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, both of which are still mired in bloodshed.

In all these cases — and many more besides — the Nobel Committee was obviously seeking to say to the winners and to the world: ‘We welcome what you are attempting to do, and hope that giving you the Prize will make you try even harder for the cause of peace.’

These are the sort of decent, woolly-minded sentiments that country vicars unleash on their flocks every Sunday. But the consequence is that too many Nobel Laureates are honoured for aspirations rather than achievements, for proclaiming objectives which go unfulfilled, or for displaying an illusory semblance of virtue.

However, this year, the 93rd in which the award has been made, the committee has surpassed all previous follies and travesties. The peace prize has been given to the European Union. The award, it is said, recognises six decades of commitment to the advancement of peace, reconciliation and human rights.

[UPDATED] Latest Newsweek Cover: “Hit The Road, Barack: Why We Need A New President”…

Niall Ferguson: Obama’s Gotta Go

Why does Paul Ryan scare the president so much? Because Obama has broken his promises, and it’s clear that the GOP ticket’s path to prosperity is our only hope.

I was a good loser four years ago. “In the grand scheme of history,” I wrote the day after Barack Obama’s election as president, “four decades is not an especially long time. Yet in that brief period America has gone from the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. to the apotheosis of Barack Obama. You would not be human if you failed to acknowledge this as a cause for great rejoicing.”

Despite having been—full disclosure—an adviser to John McCain, I acknowledged his opponent’s remarkable qualities: his soaring oratory, his cool, hard-to-ruffle temperament, and his near faultless campaign organization.

Yet the question confronting the country nearly four years later is not who was the better candidate four years ago. It is whether the winner has delivered on his promises. And the sad truth is that he has not.

In his inaugural address, Obama promised “not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth.” He promised to “build the roads and bridges, the electric grids, and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together.” He promised to “restore science to its rightful place and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost.” And he promised to “transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age.” Unfortunately the president’s scorecard on every single one of those bold pledges is pitiful.

Sheila Jackson Lee - Your Time is up.

People have lost their fervor for this country because of people like Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).  She astounds us with her continuous chorus of racism but does nothing to stop it.  She and others in the democrat party are the reason this country is on a permanent downward trend.  Have they done anything positive in the past fifty years to help this country?  The answer is clearly no.  The vitriolic fanning of the flames has got to stop and stop now. The democrat party has nothing new to offer. Their only path to victory is to cast aspersions upon those among us that do care about this country. The leadership in this country has failed us.

Recently, Rep. Lee marked the 400th day of the GOP do nothing congress.  She said “Americans cannot afford another year of a Republican Congress that fails to focus on jobs, refuses to strengthen our middle class, and tries to end Medicare guarantee.” None of the accusations are true. The Republican controlled House has passed nearly 30 common sense jobs bills since regaining control of Congress in 2010. All of the bills are stalled in the Senate by Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV).  Rep. Lee only has to look to the democrats in the Senate to see where the problem lies, but she is blinded by her own agenda. Time and time again President Obama has proposed jobs bills that do nothing but increase the deficit and his past history in this area have been a total failure in terms of job creation.

Recently it was reported that $60 million in earmarks went to college’s that employed relatives of lawmakers.  Included was $5.25 million that was directed to Rep. Lee’s husband while he was vice president of student affairs and vice chancellor at the University of Houston.  Even though she was just one of many, it highlights the improprieties that occur with regularity in Congress and must be stopped. In another questionable statement Rep. Lee admonished Pepsi for an ad that ran during the super bowl last year. At that time she said that the ad was “Insulting to woman of all colors”.

We have a serious problem in this country.  In the past Rep. Lee has stooped to the level of nonsense that can only come from a democrat.  On February 10th Rep. Lee had the temerity to say “Republican’s want to take away the essence of all religious faith”, yet is it her hero President Obama who wants to scrap Article 1 of the Bill of Rights that says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.

Is this the essence of the people that we want running our government?  The democrats have gone out of their way to accuse republicans of racism.  Martin Luther King said “I look for the day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character”. When we decide who is most qualified we should look for those that have the ability to bring people together and not divide them. Race bating does not bring people together and does everything to divide us. We have to make sure they make the right choices for those of us that they represent.  We do not want those among us that are running for their own personal agenda. It is time to replace those that have taken us and government for granted and elect a new breed of politician to deliver this country back to where we once were.  The democrats have done nothing but take a dependent approach to the problems facing this country. It is time for wholesale change and no stone should be unturned to find and elect people that truly care about America.
