Obama Concedes Massive Problems With Obamacare Rollout; Republicans Denounce 'Fiasco'

President Barack Obama on Monday said there was "no excuse" for the cascade of computer problems that have marred the rollout of key elements in his healthcare law, but declared he was confident the administration would be able to fix the issues.

"There's no sugarcoating it," Obama said. "Nobody is more frustrated than I am."
The president said his administration was doing "everything we can possibly do" to get the federally run websites up and running. And he guaranteed that everyone who wants to get insurance through the new healthcare exchanges will be able to.

Editor's Note Video Exposes Dangers of Obamacare Law

Obama's event in the White House Rose Garden had the feeling of a healthcare pep rally, with guests applauding as Obama ticked through what the White House sees as benefits of the law. The president was introduced by a woman who had successfully managed to sign up for health insurance through the marketplaces in her home state of Delaware.

The president insisted that his healthcare law is about more than just a website.
"The essence of the law, the health insurance that's available to people, is working just fine," he said.
The White House says more than 19 million people have visited HealthCare.gov since the site went live on Oct. 1. Officials also say a half million people have applied for insurance on the federal- and state-run websites.

Administration officials initially blamed a high volume of interest for the frozen screens that many people encountered when they first logged on to the website. Since then, they have also acknowledged issues with software and some elements of the system's design.

In a memo released Sunday, the administration said it was also putting in place "tools and processes to aggressively monitor and identify parts of HealthCare.gov where individuals are encountering errors or having difficulty using the site, so we can prioritize and fix them."

Obamacare: Woman Falls Ill at Health Care Event

A woman behind President Obama fell ill at today's Obamacare event at the White House:
She looked like she was about to faint, as President Obama turned around in the middle of his remarks and told her to go take a seat. She left the back podium, and Obama joked, "This happens when I talk too long. You'll be okay. Why don't you go sit down? Come on. Good catch."

Remarks by the President on the Affordable Care Act and the Government Shutdown

PRESIDENT OBAMA:  Good morning, everybody.  At midnight last night, for the first time in 17 years, Republicans in Congress chse to shut down the federal government.  Let me be more specific:  One faction, of one party, in one house of Congress, in one branch of government, shut down major parts of the government -- all because they didn’t like one law.
This Republican shutdown did not have to happen.  But I want every American to understand why it did happen.  Republicans in the House of Representatives refused to fund the government unless we defunded or dismantled the Affordable Care Act.  They’ve shut down the government over an ideological crusade to deny affordable health insurance to millions of Americans.  In other words, they demanded ransom just for doing their job.
And many representatives, including an increasing number of Republicans, have made it clear that had they been allowed by Speaker Boehner to take a simple up or down vote on keeping the government open, with no partisan strings attached, enough votes from both parties would have kept the American people’s government open and operating.
We may not know the full impact of this Republican shutdown for some time.  It will depend on how long it lasts.  But we do know a couple of things.  We know that the last time Republicans shut down the government in 1996, it hurt our economy.  And unlike 1996, our economy is still recovering from the worst recession in generations.
We know that certain services and benefits that America’s seniors and veterans and business owners depend on must be put on hold.  Certain offices, along with every national park and monument, must be closed.  And while last night, I signed legislation to make sure our 1.4 million active-duty military are paid through the shutdown, hundreds of thousands of civilian workers -- many still on the job, many forced to stay home -- aren’t being paid, even if they have families to support and local businesses that rely on them.  And we know that the longer this shutdown continues, the worse the effects will be.  More families will be hurt.  More businesses will be harmed.

Our Non-Serious President - Three more years we’re stuck with this class-less act.

Fresh from terrorizing the Russians and bringing everlasting peace to a war-torn Middle East, Barack Obama undertook Monday to work on the Republicans the same tactics that worked so resoundingly on the trembling Vladimir Putin. He made a speech.
Obama makes a lot of speeches because he has a lot to say on all topics. The one he made in the Rose Garden, touting his impending triumph over the country’s economic woes, had all the right props, from impressive background to worshipful audience. The language was robust: “Republicans in Congress don’t seem to be focused on how to grow the economy and build the middle class. I say ‘at the moment’ because I’m still hoping that a light bulb goes off here.”
I cannot remember a time when one faction of one party promises economic chaos if it can’t get 100 percent of what it wants.
(A)re some of these folks really so beholden to one extreme wing of their party they’re willing to tank the entire economy just because they can’t get their way on this issue?
What they call this in the boxing ring and other such high-class venues is trash-talkin’. You try to make your opponent lose his cool, get mad, throw a premature punch. C’mon, man! You think you’re such a big man! Well, where I come from, we got a name for folks like you.
And so on.

CURL: The president thinks you’re stupid (and so do ) …

ANALYSIS/OPINION:
** FILE ** President Obama delivers remarks about the ongoing situation in Syria in the Rose Garden of the White House on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, in Washington. Mr. Obama said that he has decided the United States should take military action against Syria in response to a deadly chemical weapons attack but that he will seek congressional authorization for the use of force. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci)… the vice president, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, everyone in Congress (even the dumbest guy there, Al Franken), the Supreme Court, the Washington media — enough, you get the picture, right? You’re Stupid.
How else to explain everything they do, much of what they say? They must think we’re all idiots or they simply wouldn’t do what they do, say what they say — it’s the only explanation.

Consider this: On Aug. 31, after dodging questions on Syria for more than a week, President Obama headed to the Rose Garden to give a 10-minute statement. He’d made some decisions, and he had to let America know right away — because this was urgent, URGENT!

“Now, after careful deliberation, I have decided that the United States should take military action against Syrian regime targets,” the president said about the then 10-day-old “chemical weapons” attack on civilians (he was on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard when the attack happened).

But wait, there’s more! Americans, he said, should get to speak about this burning issue, “And that’s why I’ve made a second decision ” he said, announcing he’d go to Congress for approval. He’s “ready to act!” to face down this immediate threat to America, he declared.

Then, he and Joseph R. Biden headed to the links for a five-hour round of golf. That’s right, they went golfing. The buck, apparently, stops with Congress, freeing up America’s top leaders for a little R&R.

What’s more, the day after Mr. Obama made this dire announcement, he jetted off to … Sweden! Yes, land of his Nobel Peace Prize. No, he did not cancel his tour through Scandinavia to work members of Congress for support. Instead, he headed to the Royal Institute of Technology to view the “First Commercially Viable Hybrid Solution for Trucks and Buses.” Important stuff.

PEOPLE WALK OUT ON OBAMA AT VIRGINIA RALLY

When your opening act is an accused rapist and molester of women, a man who lied to a grand jury and was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice, a man who actually stood in the Rose Garden of the White House and lied as follows:

But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time -- never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people.
When that man is your opening act, and then you climb on stage as President of the United States and people walk out halfway through your speech three days before the vote for your reelection, that’s not good.
But that’s what happened yesterday to Barack Obama in Virginia. Famous liar, womanizer, and accused rapist Bill Clinton kept the audience in their seats, but as Obama was speaking, many people had had enough; they got up and left so they could beat the parking lot traffic.
As Charlie Spiering of the Washington Examiner tweeted:
Wow. Steady stream of cold people trotting towards the exit in the middle of Obama's speech.
And even Obama’s hot air wasn’t enough to hold them.
