Taxpayer money being used to teach 'transgendered' men to talk like girls

The University of Connecticut, which received state and federal funding, has a program to teach men who want to be pretend to be women how to talk like girls (and vice-versa, of course -- no discrimination there!).

You would think this would be something easily accomplished without classes, but I guess like thespians, they want to learn from professionals!
Sylvia Wojcik was making reservations for a beach getaway in Maine when the receptionist on the other end of the line called her "ma'am." Nothing could have delighted her more.
Wojcik, 66, is transitioning from male to female. For her, that proof that she sounded like a woman was an important moment.
Wojcik has undergone several years of voice therapy, the past 18 months at the University of Connecticut's Speech and Hearing Clinic, one of a growing number of clinics with programs to teach transgender people how to sound more like the sex they identify with.
They learn not only how to change the pitch of their voice, but also its resonance (males speak more from chest, women from the head) and delivery (men tend to be more staccato, women more fluid).
It involves a lot of voice exercises - humming to find an ideal pitch, naming five words that start with the letter "T."
Five words that start with T? That sounds like the Damon Wayans "Men on Films" gay parody skit from "In Living Color!"
Roberts, a freelance copywriter, has been attending sessions since February. She expects to participate for at least another semester.
As a man, Roberts was a radio personality, voiceover artist and actor. She is now returning to the stage as an actress and doesn't want her voice to impede her winning roles.
A voice actor who will never be seen, who can still easily use a man's voice in his work, still wants his voice changed so he sounds like a girl? No irony there!

It's ridiculous that taxpayer supported foundations are being used to perpetuate people's delusions that they can change gender. This article from the Associated Press is especially Onion-like reporting, given that men can easily raise their voices and women can lower them.  The kind of training they are looking for is at the level of spies trying to make their foreign accents sound believable, which makes the entire endeavor even more preposterous.
On the other hand:
The clinic also has served some people who are not transgender, such as men who wish to sound less effeminate -- a topic explored in the new documentary "Do I Sound Gay?"
This article was produced by NewsMachete.com, the conservative news site.
Thomas Lifson adds:

I am baffled. Here, the feminists have been telling us for decades that gender stereotypes are invidious relics of the past. But now, the cutting edge of the movement, the transgendered crowd, is striving to emulate those same gender stereotypes.

[VIDEO] Get in the July 4th Spirit with This Epic Independence Day Speech

While you gear up for July 4th, remember what this holiday is all about: patriotism, independence from Great Britain and kicking some alien butt.

Or at least that's the lesson we got from 1996's Independence Day, which features one of the most inspirational speeches of all time.

"We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore," President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) tells a crowd of soldiers preparing to launch a worldwide attack against intergalactic intruders.

"We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the 4th of July and you will once again be fighting for our freedom – not from tyranny, oppression or persecution – but from annihilation."

"We're fighting for our right to live, to exist," he continues. "And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday but as the day when the world declared in one voice: 'We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!'

Reid says Republican criticisms of Obamacare are simply ‘jokes’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday said Republican complaints about President Obama’s unpopular health-care law are not valid criticisms, but rather “jokes.”
Reid says Republican criticisms of Obamacare are simply ‘jokes’n a speech on the Senate floor Thursday, the Nevada Democrat didn’t address any of the GOP’s specific complaints about the law. But he playfully suggested that Republicans, in order to save time, just “number their one through 50 criticisms of Obamacare” and yell out a number when they want to reference a specific complaint.
“We’ve heard things so many times, we would immediately laugh because basically they’re jokes,” Reid said.
He continued: “It’s too bad that the Republican leader and many of his colleagues want to keep fighting an old fight. Four years ago we passed the health reform bill, four years ago. The president signed it, the Supreme Court upheld it. It is the law of the land.”
Addressing the problems with the rocky roll out, Reid acknowledged: “Of course, we want to make it better, and certainly with what’s going on with the rollout of the web site, we need to do that. I wish our Republican colleagues would stop trying to scare people out of participating in this program.”
Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate, said from the floor on Thursday: “Let’s work together to undo the harm of Obamacare and start over with real, bipartisan, cost-saving reforms…reforms that will actually allow Americans to keep the health plans they like.”
The Kentuckian said: “It’s way past time for Democrats to end this blame game. Instead, they need to start acknowledging the consequences of their law, and actually do something about the mess they created.”
