UN climate report sneaks in worldwide carbon emissions limits

The United Nations’ climate report has already garnered criticism from scientists, but now fights are brewing around the 2,200-page document’s advocacy for a global cap on carbon dioxide emissions.
The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its fifth assessment of the Earth’s climate which asserted “95 percent” certainty that global warming was manmade while receiving criticism for glossing over the lack of significant warming in the last 15 years.
One highly contentious paragraph in the report states that society cannot emit more than one trillion tons of carbon dioxide for global temperatures not to warm more than 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
“[F]or warming due to CO2 emissions alone to be likely less than 2°C at the time CO2 emissions cease, total cumulative emissions from all anthropogenic sources over the entire industrial era would need to be limited to about… one trillion tonnes of carbon,” reads the report.
More than half of this carbon allowance has been used, according to the New York Times, and the report’s authors noted that carbon emissions would have to be limited even more than one trillion tons once other greenhouse gases other than carbon are taken into account.
“Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time,” said Thomas F. Stocker, IPCC co-chairman. “In short, it threatens our planet, our only home.”
UN scientists have not so subtly suggested that countries effectively limit their economic development, since the carbon-intensive energy is the main driver behind rapid industrialization in developing nations like China and India. This suggestion of a global carbon cap was not welcomed by developing nations who fear that their share of the emissions “pie” would be diminished through bullying from developed countries.
“Despite a concerted disinformation campaign to the contrary, there has been no increase in hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, or droughts over the past 50 years—a period over which we supposedly used half of our carbon budget for all time,” economist David Kreutzer of the conservative Heritage Foundation told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

LA Times: We Don't Publish Letters to Editor Claiming Man Isn't Causing Climate Change

It's one thing for a news outlet to advance the as yet unproven theory of anthropogenic global warming; it's quite another to admit that you won't publish views that oppose it.
As amazing as it may same, that's exactly what the Los Angeles Times did Saturday in an article by editorial writer Jon Healey:
Regular readers of The Times' Opinion pages will know that, among the few letters published over the last week that have blamed the Democrats for the government shutdown (a preponderance faulted House Republicans), none made the argument about Congress exempting itself from Obamacare.
Why? Simply put, this objection to the president's healthcare law is based on a falsehood, and letters that have an untrue basis (for example, ones that say there's no sign humans have caused climate change) do not get printed.
So letters to the editor "that say there's no sign humans have caused climate change...do not get printed."
That's quite a statement coming from an editorial writer not named Al Gore.
Of course, readers are likely just as concerned that the Times is also not publishing letters claiming Congress is exempt from ObamaCare.
After reviewing fact checks on this issue published by CNN, the Washington Post, and Yahoo, it appears the Times has a point here.

The Hoax of Global Warming, AKA, Climate Change and Death of Coal Mining

Not content with various country killing plans, Obama seeks now to apply more new rules through his infamous Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that greatly concerns those who say his new “change” will be even less loved than the nightmarish “Hope and Change” of 2008.

These next new changes could possibly result in deaths to our citizens and excessively high costs in their applications; in fact, one of Obama’s own former appointees who has deep concerns that these new coal regulations could kill, was published in the following FoxNews.com story on September 19, 2013.

“New clean-energy rules pushed through by the Obama administration are raising concerns that they could cripple the coal industry—and may require power plants to use technology so risky that even the president’s former top energy official once warned it could ‘kill.’

“The EPA, by Friday, is expected to release a new proposal to set the first-ever carbon dioxide limits for new power plants.

“To meet those emissions caps, power plants would likely have to use what is known as ‘carbon-capture technology,’ which involves burying the carbon underground.

“The technology, which is still under development, remains expensive and not commercially available. But there are lingering safety risks.

New study says threat of man-made global warming greatly exaggerated

A peer-reviewed climate change study released Wednesday by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change finds the threat of man-made global warming to be not only greatly exaggerated but so small as to be “embedded within the background variability of the natural climate system” and not dangerous.

Armed with the new findings, Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee grilled administration environmental policy officials about the economic consequences of its aggressive regulatory crackdown on the fossil fuel industry.

The 1,000 page study was the work of 47 scientists and scholars examining many of the same journals and studies that the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change (UNIPCC) examined, producing entirely different conclusions.

"This volume provides the scientific balance that is missing from the overly alarmist reports from the IPCC, which are highly selective in their review of climate science," the authors write.

The study was done under the auspices of the Heartland Institute, which claims it "has no formal attachment to or sponsorship from any government or governmental agency."

The Heartland Institute’s president, Joseph Bast, said of the study, "The big issue in the global warming debate is how large is the human impact on climate. And this report shows that it is very small, that natural variability, the variability that's caused by natural cycles of the sun and other factors, way outweigh anything the human impact could have."

Global warming documentary to premier on fossil fuel funded Al Jazeera

It wasn’t that long ago that environmentalist Bill McKibben was criticizing former Vice President Al Gore for selling Current TV to fossil fuel-backed Al Jazeera. But in an ironic twist of fate, McKibben’s group will be debuting its global warming documentary on the Qatar-funded network.
McKibben and 350.org are premiering their documentary “Do the Math” on Al Jazeera. The documentary will go “after the fossil fuel industry directly, energizing a movement like the ones that overturned the great immoral institutions of the past century, such as Apartheid in South Africa,” according to PF Pictures.
The network is partly financed by the government of Qatar. The OPEC member produces 734,000 barrels of crude oil per day as well as 157 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The trailer for “Do the Math” opens with McKibben saying, “If it’s wrong to wreck the climate, it’s wrong to profit from that wreckage” — something critics argue he is precisely doing by airing his documentary on a fossil-fuel funded network.
“We did the math a long time ago on Bill McKibben and determined he argues from positions of emotionalism and rationalization. His actions are a prime example of ‘Noble Cause Corruption’ — anything for the cause,” global warming skeptic blogger Anthony Watts told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“We already knew that Al Gore is the most lavishly funded fossil fuel player in the global warming debate today,” said Marc Morano, publisher of Climate Depot, a global warming skeptic news site. “Now it turns out that Bill McKibben’s principles are as dodgy as his understanding of climate science. Say it ain’t so Bill.”
McKibben criticized Al Gore when he sold the left-leaning Current TV to Al Jazeera, and still doesn’t like to talk about how Gore sabotaged his own credibility among environmentalists by doing so.
Bloomberg Businessweek reported: “McKibben doesn’t like to talk about Al Gore, but he shakes his head sadly when I bring up the recent sale of Gore’s Current TV to Al Jazeera — a media company funded in part by the emir of Qatar’s fossil-fuel fortune — and how that seems to have diluted Gore’s credibility. McKibben raises his eyebrows, smirks, and says, ‘You think?’ McKibben sees himself as part of a tradition of environmental writer-activists, from John Muir to Henry David Thoreau to Rachel Carson.”

OFA Continues To Demonize Global Warming “Deniers”…

Be like the Drone Army and blindly believe.
Drew –
Here’s how you know that we’re winning the climate change deniers debate:
A conservative think tank is about to spend $1.5 million on a campaign to try to cast doubt on climate change science.
If you ever doubted the power of your voice, just look at how the other side is acting right now. The work we’re doing on climate change is making them awfully nervous.
That means we need to get louder — donate $5 or more to OFA today, and let’s keep calling out climate change denial.
In other news that makes me think our message is getting through, a House committee has scheduled a hearing to question whether we should actually be taking steps to fight climate change.
Now, keep in mind: several members of this panel are climate change deniers, so I doubt we’re going to get anywhere. But this marks the first House committee hearing on climate change in quite some time.
You can prove them wrong — make a donation of $5 or more today to OFA:
Thanks,
Ivan

About that whole global warming thing. Leaked U.N. Report Confirms Global Warming Is Nonexistent, Planet Actually Cooling…

Global warming alarmists, Al Gore, we need to talk.
Well, this is awkward. A leaked report by the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that the world is not warming but actually cooling, and will continue to get colder until the middle of the century.
You remember the IPCC, right? It’s the group whose 2007 report on global warming said that snow would disappear from everywhere but the highest mountains, icebergs would melt causing sea levels to rise, deserts would spread, people would die in heat waves and pretty much the earth was going to end if we didn’t immediately destroy our carbon-fueled economy with job-killing government regulations.
Well, that’s not happening. In fact, the Arctic ice cap has grown by 60 percent since 2012.
Thanks to the IPCC’s original predictions, billions of dollars were spent on supposed green measures to curb global warming, according to the Telegraph. Now, either those measures really, really paid off, or the skeptics were right all along.

Global Government Gone Wild

Cap and Trade, Solar Power, Wind Turbines, Smart Meters, and Biofuels

“Unfortunately, human nature cannot be changed by an act of the legislature.” – Calvin Coolidge

The weatherman at KUSI-TV, John Coleman, the Weather Channel founder, had told Red Eye host on Fox News a long time ago that he wanted to sue Al Gore for global warming fraud. He said that “30,000 scientists among whom 9,000 have Ph.D.’s have signed on to debunk global warming.”

In spite of their efforts, global warming advocates have marched on, transforming how we obtain and use energy in this country and around the globe.

Interestingly, scientists from the University of Geneva will present this month “Laser, Weather, and Climate” at the conference of the World Meteorological Organization and report on “experiments using lasers to cause water to condense or ice to form, crucial in accelerating rainfall.” Cloud “seeding” had been known since 1940s, shooting silver iodide or dry ice into a cloud, “simulating the natural salt, dust, and other tiny particles in the atmosphere that help form water drops.”

Coleman had hoped that this large group of scientists would have the opportunity to debate Al Gore and the scientists behind him who have decided that global warming is real. But Al Gore and his alarmist followers refused to debate because their “consensus” opinions mixed with carefully manipulated data had become “settled science” and were thus not open for debate.

[VIDEO] Climate Clowns: Hey, Let’s Name Hurricanes After Climate ‘Deniers’

From the people who bring us all together. It’s not like so-called climate change has anything to do with hurricanes, but why let the facts get in the way of demonizing Republicans?

Has global warming hit a plateau?

And what would that mean for the threat of catastrophic climate change?

W
hy has the warming trend slowed?
Climatologists aren't sure. What they do know is that the average air temperatures at the earth's surface have risen only about 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit since 1998 — the hottest year of the 20th century — even as humanity has continued to pour vast quantities of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The world pumped roughly 110 billion tons of CO2 into the air between 2000 and 2010 — about a quarter of the total put there by mankind since the start of the Industrial Revolution. According to the prevailing models of man-made climate change, greenhouse gases heat the planet by trapping solar radiation in the atmosphere that might otherwise radiate into space. So the additional emissions over the past decade should have caused average temperatures to continue to climb as steeply as they did in the 1980s and 1990s. Climate-change skeptics say the plateau in warming proves that the climate isn't as sensitive to greenhouse emissions as scientists claim, and that it would therefore be foolish to adopt costly measures to limit the use of fossil fuels that emit CO2. "There is no problem with global warming," said Ian Plimer, an earth sciences professor at Australia's University of Melbourne. "It stopped in 1998."
Somebody hit the dimmer switch.
Do climate scientists agree?
No. They concede that temperatures haven't risen as rapidly as they did in the previous two decades, but say the world is still getting warmer due to man-made emissions. Despite the plateau in average temperatures, climatologists point out, the 2000s were hotter than the 1990s, and nine of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 1998. Overall, the world has warmed by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, which sounds modest, but is a tremendous amount of heat for the entire surface of the earth, already causing major melting of the polar ice caps and noticeably more extreme weather throughout the world. Still, that doesn't explain what happened to the "missing heat" — the warmth the last decade's greenhouse gas emissions should have trapped in the atmosphere.
