[VIDEO] Forget the website crashes: The real $1 trillion problem with Obamacare has yet to emerge

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller, Dr. Robert Nirschl — a practicing orthopedic surgeon, former faculty member of Georgetown and a former member of the legislative committee of the American Academy of  Orthopedic surgery — dismissed the recent issues suffered by HealthCare.gov and the media feeding frenzy surrounding it, arguing that the systemic flaws within the law had not yet surfaced, and that when they do, it will be catastrophic.
Nirschl took apart the concept of “health insurance” arguing that it’s an inaccurate buzzword. What is being legislated is not insurance at all, Nirschl said. By its very nature, “insurance” is a way of protecting against an unforeseen, catastrophic incident. It works by having large groups of people paying premiums into a central fund with the understanding that if they were to suffer an unlikely incident, they will be compensated. The likelyhood of people claiming out of the central fund is a calculated through a risk assessment, and the riskier the “bet,” the higher the premium. Nirschl points out that since the 1950s’s true health “insurance” has not existed.

[VIDEO] Leno Tougher on How President 'Lied' About ObamaCare Than NBC Reporters

On Tuesday's NBC Tonight Show, host Jay Leno provided harsher criticism of President Obama falsely claiming that Americans could keep their current health insurance plans under ObamaCare than any of the network's reporters. Leno told the audience: "Well, it's being reported that the President has known for three years that people would lose their coverage. The press is now saying the President lied." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Leno setup a mock defense of Obama: "But today the White House said that's not true. He did not lie. And they released this tape from three years ago to prove it. Here's what he said three years ago." A comically dubbed-over sound bite followed of Obama saying people "cannot" keep their doctors and health insurance.
Today co-host Savannah Guthrie appeared later on the show, but neither her nor Leno made any mention of the disastrous ObamaCare rollout.

NBC's only direct mention of the administration knowing that millions would be kicked off their existing health care plans came during a report on Monday's NBC Nightly News when White House correspondent Peter Alexander provided a mere twenty-one seconds to the network's own scoop.

Tuesday's Today ignored the story, but senior investigative correspondent Lisa Myers – who broke the news – did appear on that evening's Nightly News to discuss the fallout from her reporting. However, she never actually repeated the headline, the charge that the White House knew the President's claims about ObamaCare were untrue.
Myers began the segment by explaining: "So far almost 2 million of the 14 million Americans who buy individual coverage have gotten letters that their policy is cancelled or has to change because of the law. Still, the white house insists the President did not mislead Americans when he promised everyone could keep their insurance."

She then highlighted one of those casualties of the new law: "That doesn't sit well with George Schwab who is retired, started a new business, and been told because of the new health care law his current policy is no longer available because it doesn't meet minimum standards. His new policy comes with a premium increase of more than 400%."

President Obama's campaign group polling supporters on Obamacare

President Obama's campaign organization is polling its own supporters on the Affordable Care Act, asking them to answer a series of questions that appear designed to gauge their opinion of the rollout of the law and what they're hearing from friends and family.
In an email, Organizing For Action, formerly Obama For America, tells supporters that “it's easy to lose sight of what the law really does — and how millions of Americans are already seeing the benefits.” Supporters are then asked to click a link that takes them to five short survey questions. The poll also asks respondents to relay “what questions are you hearing about the new marketplace or other parts of Obamacare?”
Questions poised to supporters of Organizing For Action:
How well would you say you understand Obamacare?
o you currently have health insurance?
Have you, your family, or your friends enrolled through the new health insurance marketplace that opened Oct. 1?
Do you intend to purchase insurance through the new health insurance marketplace?
Do you have friends or family who plan on purchasing insurance through the new health insurance marketplace?

Chat Roulette - Meet Your Friendly Obamacare Navigators

Say what you will about the long wait times, rampant errors, and frozen screens, the human face of Healthcare.gov is committed to serving its constituency.
I’m not talking about Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius or CGI Federal executive Cheryl Campbell. No, I’m talking about Liliana, Summer, Patricia, and Erain — some of the customer service reps who handle Healthcare.gov inquiries.
I spent four hours chatting with these lovely ladies and other faceless navigators on Wednesday to address common concerns about the decidedly user-un-friendly website. I don’t have any concerns, so I made them up. Here’s what I found.
You know that serving us is their top priority because every webchat begins the same way.

Thanks for contacting us. My name is Liliana. To protect your privacy, please don’t provide any personal information, like Social Security Number, or any other sensitive medical or personal information.

Obama Weekly Address: Enrolling in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace Saturday October 26, 213

President Barack Obama intends to publish a weekly video address every Saturday morning of his presidency.
  • In this week’s address, President Obama discusses the launch of the Health Insurance Marketplace for the Affordable Care Act, which gives millions of Americans the opportunity to have access to affordable and reliable healthcare—many for the first time.

Healthcare.gov: You Don't Need Insurance to Get Health Care Free

(CNSNews.com) – Last year, the Obama administration went all the way to the Supreme Court to fend off challenges to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act--AKA Obamacare--that argued that the federal government had no constitutional authority to order Americans to buy health insurance.
Thanks to Chief Justice John Roberts, the administration won a landmark 5-4 victory, establishing the power of the federal government to force individuals to purchase products so long as that mandate is enforced through a "tax."
Now Healthcare.gov, the government-run website where people can buy Obamacare-mandated health insurance plans through government-run exchanges, informs people that they actually do not need to buy a legally-mandated health insurance plans to get health care for free.
Healthcare.gov: You Don't Need Health Insurance to Get Health Care Free
A tab on the website entitled “Finding Health Care You Can Afford," tells visitors: “There may be local facilities that provide free or reduced-cost care, whether you're insured or not. What you pay depends on your income.”
If you click on the “Learn More” tab, it brings you to a page that provides further details on how you can secure free and reduced-cost health care without buying on of the Obamacare-mandated plans.

Better off on public assistance

Posted 42 mins ago
DH is a student on the GI Bill. I work part time in the evenings to avoid paying for childcare and take care of our 4 month old the rest of the time. Health insurance costs just about everything I make so I looked into state healthcare and learned that our family would be financially better off if I quit my job. Between health care and food stamps, we'd have more coming in than my job provides, but with my job we are $200 a month away from qualifying. I'm working because we need the income even though I hate leaving my baby. Is it crazy to quit my job? This might be more of a moral question than a financial question.

I'm not touching the morality/ethical part of this.
However, if your job qualifies you for the earned income credit, you might find that your tax refund is significant with you working part time.
And if you weren't working and have no earned income, then you might not get that credit.
Does anyone know how the GI bill is treated for tax purposes and the EIC?   I really don't know if it's treated like earned income or if it's treated more like a scholarship.

I'd like to know as well, but am guessing it is not treated as earned income just like the housing allowance for military members is not.

GI bill is not taxable and not reportable except for purposes of claiming education related credits.

I used part GI bill part tuition assistance in 2012. The college will give out a 1099 for taxes and I actually got quite a bit back. I think if I recall right it was treated more like a scholarship than income.

When I hit my 10 yr mark with the military and got that raise it put me over the limit for WIC by about $60. I no longer qualified. I was not about to dump my career just for $200 a month in milk, eggs, cheese, bread, peanut butter, juice and cereal. We used more of the milk than anything else but I just tightened up in other areas and I've done ok without it.
