Lois Lerner: Lincoln Should’ve Let the South Go Instead of Civil War

PicMonkey Collage - Lerner Lincoln
Most Americans tend to agree that Abraham Lincoln was one of this country’s better presidents, having saved the nation from imploding on itself with the Civil War. Former IRS chief Lois Lerner, however, does not apparently have the same thoughts about keeping the South in the union.

“Look my view is that Lincoln was our worst president not our best,” Lerner wrote in 2014. “He should (have) let the south go. We really do seem to have 2 totally different mindsets.”
The Senate Finance Committee released a report yesterday that examined 1.5 million pages of IRS emails. A significant focus has gone to the fact that Lerner had a pattern of deriding conservatives as “crazies” and “assholes,” as well as the allegations that her leadership mismanaged the applications of Tea Party groups seeking tax-exempt status
“The report clearly shows that conservative groups were singled out because of their political beliefs, and gross mismanagement at the IRS allowed this practice to continue for years,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch.
Lerner is still reeling from renewed backlash after yesterday’s reports suggested that she once targeted an organization that once paid a fee to Bristol Palin.

Millionaire Congresswoman: Income Inequality is 'Existential Threat' to U.S.

Rosa DeLauro(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), who is worth millions of dollars according to her congressional financial disclosure statement, says Congress needs to tackle income inequality because it “poses an existential threat to our nation and our way of life.”
On the House floor last Wednesday DeLauro said, “Every generation of leaders in this institution has faced their own time of testing. Whether it’s an economic panic, Great Depression, slavery, Jim Crow, Civil War, World War, Cold War. There are times when our country is confronted with a crisis that poses an existential threat to our nation and our way of life and Congress needs to stand up and act.”
“The test of our time is inequality,” DeLauro continued.  “It’s not too much to say that inequality threatens the continued existence of the middle class in America and even the American Dream itself.”
“The question before us now is: are we going to continue to be the land of opportunity, social mobility and the nation that forged the largest middle class in human history during the 20th century, or are we going to become a nation of very few haves and millions of have-nots?”
According to her congressional financial disclosure statement for 2012, DeLauro is worth between $5 million and $25 million. (The form’s requirements allow members to state ranges of value for their assets rather than exact values.)

The New York Times Equates Opposing Obamacare With Slavery

One does not expect to find insightful, cogent, or fair commentary on the editorial pages of the New York Times. Banal liberalism, provincialism, and insulation from the beliefs of flyover America are standard fare and thus to be expected. But every once in a while, a piece comes along which is so utterly devoid of reason, taste, or linear thought that it deserves to be pointed out for special ridicule. Such is this piece by Timothy Egan which equates – and I am dead serious – opposing Obamacare with supporting slavery:
Before he was immortalized for saving the union, freeing the slaves and giving the best political speech in American history, Abraham Lincoln was just an unpopular new president handed a colossal crisis. Elected with 39.7 percent of the vote, Lincoln told a big lie in his inaugural address of 1861.
“I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists,” he said, reaching out to the breakaway South. “I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.”
He was saying to a Confederacy that would enshrine owning another human being in its new constitution: If you like the slaves you’ve got now, you can keep them. It was a lie in the sense that Lincoln made a promise, changed by circumstances, that he broke less than two years later — and probably never meant to keep.
The comparisons of President Obama to Lincoln fade with every day of the shrinking modern presidency. As for the broken-promise scale: Lincoln said an entire section of the country could continue to enslave more than one in three of its people. Obama wrongly assured about five million people that they could keep their bare-bones health plans if they liked them (later amended when it turned not to be true).

There’s a lot to unpack in this particular bowl of word salad, including some questionable historical assertions about Lincoln’s intent with respect to the South upon taking office, and the New York Times’ continued use of bizarre Orwellian language to avoid calling Obama a liar. Lincoln, on the one hand, told a “big lie.” Obama, on the other hand, “wrongly assured” people something that he “later amended” only after, due to circumstances completely beyond his control, “it turned out not to be true.”

MSNBC’s Michael Eric Dyson to GOP: Stop Comparing Obamacare to Slavery!

Quite a number of Republicans and conservative pundits have taken to bashing Obamacare by comparing it to slavery, and on Wednesday, MSNBC’sMichael Eric Dyson told the GOP to quit the ridiculous, over-the-top comparisons.
Dyson first mocked the lack of GOP “rebranding” after 2012, and noticed how whenever Republicans don’t like a law, “they say it’s akin to slavery.” He showed a montage of everyone from Dr. Ben Carson to George Will making the comparison, even linking Obamacare to the Fugitive Slave Law. What do they have in common? Well, other than the fact that they’re both laws, nothing.
Dyson gave a history lesson on racism and “poisonous bigotry” in the United States, and even said of people like Carson and Allen West that “Black mouths are opening, white supremacist ideals are speaking. There’s a ventriloquist act going on here.”
Dyson then made a plea to the GOP to stop with the insane comparisons.
“The only thing that is comparable to slavery is slavery itself! Stop all the stuff! Ix-nay on the comparative analysis of and the parallels to slavery! Affordable Care Act has freed millions of people from their indentured existence in a system that denied them opportunity!”

Roland Martin Confronts Ben Carson Over Obamacare ‘Worst Thing Since Slavery’ Comments

On his NewsOne radio show Friday morning, Roland Martin confronted Dr. Ben Carson over his recent comments that Obamacare is “the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.
Noting other post-slavery issues like Jim Crow laws, Martin asked, “Did you go too far?”
“That’s my opinion,” Carson responded. “First of all, I recognize that slavery was a horrible thing … I realize how horrible it was … I didn’t say this is as bad as slavery, I said this is the worst thing since slavery.”
“Which includes Jim Crow,” Martin shot back.
“Yes, absolutely,” the neurosurgeon explained. “This nation was founded on the principle that it would be a new type of nation, that was for, of, and by the people. A constitution was put in place that would assure that the people remain at the pinnacle of power and that the central government would never reach the point where it had control of the people. [Obamacare] fundamentally changes the relationship.”
The Affordable Care Act, Dr. Carson asserted, will give the government control over “everyone’s health.” Martin pushed back, declaring that the healthcare law empowers the individual. The doctor responded by saying that the law gets in between the patient-provider relationship.
“This is only the beginning,” Carson continued. “What you will see is that a lot of the insurance companies will begin to fold … Ultimately we will have a single-payer system if we don’t stop this from happening.”

Limbaugh: Obamacare is ‘The Law of the Land’ Just Like Slavery Was

As the major implementation date for the Affordable Care Act approaches, conservatives are doing everything they can to prevent the law from coming to fruition. Naturally, this includes Rush Limbaugh, who used a new tack to argue against Obamacare on his radio show Thursday, along the way comparing it to slavery.
Limbaugh’s argument hinged on a term that’s popular with Democrats who want to see Obamacare become a reality: “It’s the law of the land.” The host wondered “what else at one time was the ‘law of the land?’: Slavery!”
“Slavery used to be the law of the land,” Limbaugh informed his audience, noting that the Supreme Court even once upheld it. From there, he listed other things that used to be the “law of the land” but are not relics of the past:
  • “Defense of Marriage Act.”
  • “The speed limit used to be 55, now it’s 70.”
  • “Immigration law.”
  • “Guns, Second Amendment.”
  • “Laws against marijuana.”
Limbaugh wanted to know why Democrats are allowed to get rid of “bad laws” they don’t like but Republicans aren’t. “Is that the only way they can defend this?” Limbaugh asked. “Is that the best they’ve got? ‘It’s the law of the land’?”
