[VIDEO] Boehner Shares Stories of Ohioans Hurt By Obamacare

BY:
In an effort to garner support for the Keep Your Health Plan Act (H.R. 3350), Speaker John Boehner shared the stories of two of his constituents who have experienced hardships thanks to Obamacare.
One constituent and his wife have had their insurance plan canceled and replaced with a plan that will cost them an additional  $500 per month. Another man, Brian, owns a small business and was informed that his insurance rates will double. Brian is fearful because if the premiums double, he will be forced to shut down his business. His workers will thus lose their jobs and health care insurance.
Boehner warned “Now these are just two stories from my district Ohio. And there’s millions more of them all around the country. Premiums are going up. People are losing their coverage. And small business owners are being terrified” and encouraged House members to vote for the Keep Your Health Plan Act.

Pelosi reiterates that Obamacare is about ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’

Nancy PelosiHouse Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday morning that Obamacare is a certain unalienable Right, which is no big surprise coming from the Left.
Pelosi was speaking at The Atlantic’s Washington Ideas Forum when she argued that the president’s health care law is “all about” a great many things, one of them being a core tenet of American life.
“This all about the people, about the seniors, about the children … it’s about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” Pelosi said to a gathering at the Newseum, a Washington, D.C. museum of journalism and news. At the top of her remarks, Pelosi gave praise to freedom of the press, and she harked back to it as she continued her explanation of Obamacare-as-product of the Declaration of Independence.
“As we talk about the First Amendment, let’s go back even further than that — life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A healthier life, the liberty to pursue your happiness so that you’re not job-locked because you have a preexisting condition or your child does, but you are free — that liberty to pursue your passion, whether you want to be a writer, a photographer, be self-employed, start a business, change jobs. This is a transformative initiative.”
And oh, what a transformative explanation.
This is not the first time the nation’s House minority leader has made these comments – not by a long shot – but it’s comical that she’s continuing to use it as a talking point. Pelosi’s ilk say that it’s Republican obstructionism to the law that will keep people off of health insurance “even if it means half the country dies,” and yet Obamacareis forcing insurance cancellations. So much for the “life” argument. And where is the “liberty” in having to payjacked-up premiums for the same health insurance?

Fred Upton Supports the Landrieu Obamacare Fix. So Does Barack Obama

Erick has made a couple of posts on why supporting Fred Upton’s messaging bill, allowing people to retain insurance policies that are not Obamacare-compliant, is a profoundly bad idea.  (ReadIt’s a Trap!Yes, It’s a Trap; and Riddle Me This, Republicans). In the process he’s received a significant amount of pushback from the Big Brain Thinkers in the GOP who are convinced that the Upton bill is just too clever for words.
Erick has pointed out that it will be child’s play for Harry Reid to substitute the language in Mary Landrieu’s bill for that in the Upton bill, pass it, and send it back to the House for assignment to a conference committee.
The Upton bill is more of the kabuki theater the Establishment GOP has entertained us with since the government shutdown. Why is it that the same people who were trying so hard to help Obama fix Obamacare in October are suddenly interested in killing Obamacare today? The short answer is that they aren’t.
That should tell you all you need to know about how useful Upton’s bill is to the cause of killing Obamacare.

Rush Limbaugh: Obama 'Playing Dictator' With Healthcare

Image: Rush Limbaugh: Obama 'Playing Dictator' With HealthcareRadio talk show host Rush Limbaugh played President Barack Obama's announcement about the troubled healthcare law on his show Thursday, commenting as he went and likening the president to a dictator.

When the president had finished explaining his proposed change to Obamacare, which would allow individuals to keep their plans for another year, Limbaugh told his audience:

"He's doing two things: He's telling the insurance companies, as a dictator would, what they can and can't do or what they must or must not do, or what they have to and don't have to do. He is suggesting … that if you have your plan now and you like it, you can keep it for one more year so that you don't get any angrier at Democrats than you are now and vote against them next November."

The Palm-Beach, Fla., based commentator continued, "If your plan has been canceled, he has just ordered the insurance company to make it available to you, so that you can go back and get that plan. The problem is that that plan was canceled precisely because it conflicts with his law, with Obamacare."

Limbaugh, whose show is the highest-rated talk-radio program in the country, said the president's move was purely political.

"Remember, he's doing this not because he cares about you. He's not doing this because he's upset you've lost your plan. He's doing this because he's losing the media, and he's losing his fellow Democrats, and he's losing the proposition."

Limbaugh also replayed a segment from his Oct. 30 show in which he predicted Obama's about-face

"If Obama is gonna go out now and play dictator, let's realize he could play dictator in any direction he wants to go… If he has the power to deny you your grandfathered plan, the one you liked and the one you were told you could keep… then maybe Obama can play dictator and re-grandfather your plan. If he can play dictator and take it away from you, then he can play dictator and fix it, I assume."

"This is such a disaster, folks," he concluded after playing the clip. "The original problem with this remains. This is so un-American, this whole thing, and now what's the 'fix'? The fix is for this guy to play dictator again and now command or compel the insurance companies to run their business the way he wants them to for the next year is that his part won't be hurt in the elections next November.

"This isn't America, folks," he added.

Everything you need to know about the plans to ‘fix’ Obamacare

Democrats are engaged in a tricky game right now: They want to do something to respond to public outrage over the flawed implementation and broken promises of Obamacare. But they don't want to do something that further breaks Obamacare.
"People are mad at us because the ACA rollout has been a disaster," says one Democratic Senate aide. "So we have to show that we hear them and are willing to address the problems at hand. That is doable. Resisting any changes is probably untenable at this point, but there is still plenty of room to make changes that show the public we are listening without doing irreparable harm to the law long-term."

Rep. Fred Upton's "Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013"
The Republican Party's play is Fred Upton's "Keep Your Health Plan Act." The law is poorly named: It doesn't actually guarantee that you can keep your health care. Instead, it allows insurers to keep offering their current plans and also allows them to offer new plans that aren't ACA compliant.

[VIDEO] Beyond Spin? Networks Unload on ObamaCare: An 'Embarrassing,' 'Botched' 'Resounding Thud'

At least for Thursday, the network morning shows admitted that ObamaCare is an "embarrassing," "botched" failure that has landed with a "resounding thud." ABC, NBC and CBS offered blunt, stark descriptions of the health care law's low enrollment rates and the disastrous implementation. Good Morning America reporter Jim Avila explained, "The President's signature achievement, health care for everyone, officially got off to a resounding thud." He added that Republicans are "seizing on the botched rollout."
Over on NBC's Today, Savannah Guthrie unloaded on the President: "A new poll that has the President's approval rating hitting an all-time low as the administration is forced to acknowledge health care enrollment numbers that are embarrassingly low." [See video below. MP3 audio here.] Correspondent Peter Alexander marveled, "For a better sense of just how few Americans signed up for ObamaCare in the first month – 106,000 total – consider that's barely enough to fill a large football stadium and only one-fifth of what government officials had projected."
Alexander made sure to repeatedly explain the danger to the Democratic Party: "Even Senate Democrats are getting anxious, especially those facing tough re-elections next year....But Democrats are losing patience, one calling it 'a complete embarrassment.'"
CBS This Morning anchor Charlie Rose called the scant number of Americans who signed up for the health care law a "reality check for ObamaCare."
Correspondent Major Garrett bleakly noted:
MAJOR GARRETT: "These numbers confirm starkly the worse administration fears: ObamaCare's ineptly-designed federal health care website starved the program of hundreds of thousands of potential customers. Health care websites run by 14 states and the District of Columbia performed a bit better. Not only did these enrollment numbers fall well short of expectations, they came with an unconventional definition.

Obama: Using Obamacare Website as Easy as Buying 'a TV on Amazon'

Pres. Obama said today that buying Obamacare health insurance through the administration's www.healthcare.gov website is the same as buying something on Kayak.com or Amazon.com.
In a speech defending Obamacare, the issue driving the government shutdown/budget battle, Obama declared:
"[S]tarting today, you and your friends and your family and your coworkers can get covered, too.  Just visit healthcare.gov, and there you can compare insurance plans, side by side, the same way you'd shop for a plane ticket on Kayak or a TV on Amazon.
"You enter some basic information, you'll be presented with a list of quality, affordable plans that are available in your area, with clear descriptions of what each plan covers, and what it will cost.  You'll find more choices, more competition, and in many cases, lower prices -- most uninsured Americans will find that they can get covered for $100 or less."
And, instead of taking his word, Americans should try the website out for themselves, Obama said:
"And you don't have to take my word for it.  Go on the website, healthcare.gov, check it out for yourself.  And then show it to your family and your friends and help them get covered, just like mayors and churches and community groups and companies are already fanning out to do across the country."
But, both an MSNBC host and a congressman tried to use the site and failed due to error messages.
National Review reports on MSNBC's unsuccessful bid to show how easy the site is to use:

CBS’s Major Garrett Confronts Obama on Broken ‘Keep Your Plan’ Promises: ‘Do You Regret It?’

Following remarks on a “keep your plan” fix for the Affordable Care Act, CBS reporter Major Garrett grilled the president Thursday afternoon on whether Americans deserve “greater accountability” surrounding the administration’s repeated promises to the American people that “if you like your plan, you can keep it.”
“You said while the law was being debated, ‘If you like your plan, you can keep it,’” Garrett began. “You said after the law was implemented or signed, ‘If you liked your plan, you can keep it.’ Americans believed you, sir, when you said that to them over and over.”
“Do you not believe, sir, the American people deserve a deeper, more transparent accountability from you as to why you said that over and over when your own statistics alerted your policy staff — and I presume you — to the fact that millions of Americans would, in fact, probably fall into the very gap you’re trying to administratively fix right now?” he asked, adding another question: “You were informed that [Healthcare.gov] was failing the most basic tests internally, and yet a decision was made to launch the web site on October 1st. Did you make that, and if so, do you regret that?”
The president responded that he was “not informed directly” about the website’s potential failings. “Had I been informed, I wouldn’t be going out saying, boy, this is going to be great, you know?”
“I’m accused of a lot of things, but I don’t think I’m stupid enough to go around saying this is going to be like shopping on Amazon or Travelocity a week before the website opens if I thought it wasn’t going to work,” he added.
And regarding the “keep your plan” promises, Obama told Garrett: “There is no doubt that the way I put that forward unequivocally ended up not being accurate. It was not because of my intention not to deliver on that commitment and that promise. We put a grandfather clause into the law, but it was insufficient,” he conceded.
Admitting that the grandfather clause did not work sufficiently for the millions of Americans who recently lost their healthcare plans, Obama reitreated: “That’s on me. And that’s why i’m trying to fix it. and as I’ve said earlier — I guess last week and I will repeat — that’s something I deeply regret, because it’s scary getting a cancellation notice.”
Garrett later followed up with a separate, tougher question: “Did you decide, sir, that the simple declaration was something the American people could handle but this nuanced stance that you just gave now was something they couldn’t handle, and you didn’t trust the American people with the fuller truth?”
“No,” the president replied. “My expectation was that for 98% of the American people either it genuinely wouldn’t change at all, or they’d be pleasantly surprised with the options in the marketplace and that the grandfather clause would cover the rest. That proved not to be the case. And that’s on me. And the American people — those who got cancellation notices — do deserve and have received an apology from me.”

Obama woos tribes, says he’ll visit Indian Country in 2014 BY ROB HOTAKAINEN

Obama Tribes — While President Barack Obama’s popularity has slipped in public opinion polls, he found plenty of support Wednesday among one key constituency: the 566 leaders of federally recognized Indian tribes.
“I’d rank him as high as I can go; a 10, really, to be honest with you,” said Leo Lolnitz, first chief of the Koyukuk Native Village in Alaska.
Brian Cladoosby, the chairman of Washington state’s Swinomish Indian Tribal Community for the past 17 years, said Obama was “second to none” when compared with other U.S. presidents.
Tribal leaders consider the occupant of the White House one of their own. To them, he’s Barack Black Eagle Obama, having received his Indian name in 2008 when a couple on the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana formally adopted him. And on Wednesday, they got a chance to meet with him yet again, as the president kept a campaign promise by hosting his fifth White House Tribal Nations Conference.
In a 14-minute speech to the tribal leaders, Obama said he’d make his first visit to Indian Country as president sometime next year, though he didn’t say where he plans to go. He visited the Montana reservation when he was challenging Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination in his first presidential campaign.
The annual gathering at the Interior Department gives tribal leaders a chance to make pitches for what they want from Washington in the coming year. In 2014, tribal leaders want an end to the budget cuts known as sequestration and more authority to manage their own affairs, among other things.
A dozen Cabinet officials met with the tribal leaders, promising more help for such challenges as fighting crime, fixing schools and getting better health care.
