[VIDEO] CBS: Obama's 'Patch' of Insurance Cancellations 'Fell Flat'; 'Created Another Mess'

Major Garrett pointed out on Friday's CBS This Morning that the politician's Thursday "attempt to fix the problem of canceled insurance policies...fell flat", as it failed to satisfy his Democratic allies in Congress, who are nervous about the next election. Garrett devoted much of his report on the morning newscast, as well on Thursday's CBS Evening News, to his hard-hitting questioning of the politician, where he hounded the politician over the ObamaCare debacle.

The journalist also underscored that "many state insurance commissioners...[are] unlikely to enforce the President's new policy". He also spotlighted an insurance industry expert's stinging assessment of this supposed fix: [MP3 audio available herevideo below the jump]
ROBERT LASZEWSKI, HEALTH POLICY AND STRATEGY ASSOCIATES PRESIDENT: I have no idea who is advising this President in how the insurance market works. But they've just created another mess here, on top of all the other messes they've created.
Garrett wasted little time before playing a clip of the President's "now-infamous" promise to the American people – that "if you like your insurance plan, you will keep it". He continued that Obama's Thursday proposal to "give consumers with canceled individual insurance policies a chance to get them back....will not be easy."

The CBS correspondent then played his soundbite of Laszewski, and added that "some Democrats said the so-called ObamaCare patch fell short, since it's only a one-year fix". He spent the rest of the segment with two extended excerpts from the White House press conference, where Garrett confronted the Democrat over his administration's beyond botched handling of the health care issue:
MAJOR GARRETT (voice-over): CBS News asked the President why he promised people could keep their plans in the first place.

[VIDEO] CBS's Garrett: 'Desperate' Obama Admin. Hopes to 'End ObamaCare Blues'

On Monday's CBS This Morning, Major Garrett emphasized the Obama administration was "desperate" to reverse the debacle over its so-called Affordable Care Act, twice asserting the executive branch was trying to "end the ObamaCare blues". Garrett also pointed out that "the White House has lowered expectations – both politically and mathematically –about as low as humanly possible" regarding ObamaCare enrollment numbers.

However, unlike his colleague Jan Crawford, the correspondent failed to explicitly point out how millions of Americans are losing their current health care coverage due to the controversial law. Instead, Garrett played up the larger expense of the new ObamaCare-friendly plans: [audio available herevideo below the jump]
MAJOR GARRETT: ...[T]he White House is going to look at that solution it hopes to offer this week for those in the individual market whose costs are higher than expected. The President apologized for that last week, and White House aides tell me the President never would have apologized if he didn't have a solution he could offer.

CBS News’ Obamacare ‘Victim’ Now Calls Losing Health Plan a ‘Blessing in Disguise’

When Dianne Barrette appeared on CBS This Morning last week, she instantly became the poster child for all of those Americans whose insurance companies are terminating their plans due to the higher standards dictated by the Affordable Care Act. Now, in an interview with The New Republic, the 56-year-old Florida resident admits that losing her existing health insurance plan my not be so terrible after all.
Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher debunked much of CBS News’ reporting in a column that called the segment “misleading” and revealed the details of Barrette’s bare bones insurance plan. “The plan that Barrette paid $54 a month for is barely health insurance at all,” Christopher wrote. ‘It’s part of a subset of insurance that Consumer Reports calls “junk health insurance” (and which even the company that sells it recommends that customers not rely solely upon) and it pays only $50 towards most of the services it covers.”
The New Republic’Jonathan Cohn, who cites Christopher’s article as an initial source in his piece, takes this approach one step further by extensively outlining the variety of plans likely available for Barrette under Obamacare. He concludes that given her income, the cheapest plan available for Barrette after federal subsidies are subtracted would cost around $100 per month, or just $50 more than she was paying before and would protect her from bankruptcy, something her old plan did not do. For $150 per month, her coverage would be significantly more comprehensive.
When Cohn explained these options to Barrette, she responded: “I would jump at it. With my age, things can happen. I don’t want to have bills that could make me bankrupt. I don’t want to lose my house.” Whereas on CBS Barrette explained how “happy” she was with her current insurance and asked “Why do I have to be forced into something else?” after learning more about her new options she’s striking a different tone. “Maybe, it’s a blessing in disguise,” she told Cohn.

CBS News Blasts ObamaCare: 'The Website’s Launch Has Been Nothing Short of Disastrous'

The folks at CBS News are clearly unhappy with how ObamaCare is going.
After reporting on a Dallas man that tried for a week to sign up without any success on Tuesday's Evening News, CBS This Morning Wednesday featured a segment tearing the program apart with Jan Crawford saying "the website’s launch has been nothing short of disastrous" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
NORAH O’DONNELL, HOST: And Congress gets a status report this morning on the Affordable Care Act. The Healthcare.gov website opened more than a week ago. While millions of Americans have tried to sign up, but only a handful have been able to register for insurance because of problems with the website. It keeps shutting down. Well the House Oversight committee wants to know why. Jan Crawford is on Capitol Hill. Jan, good morning.

JAN CRAWFORD: Good morning, Norah. Good morning, Charlie. You know, administration officials who are in charge of implementing and enforcing all of this are going to be on the hot seat here on Capitol Hill this morning. I talked to chairman Darrell Issa last night, and he told me he plans to ask how and why this chaos could have happened, and he’s not the only one talking about the disarray.
A number of late night comedians were then shown making jokes about ObamaCare’s implementation.

Shocking! CBS Hounds Pelosi Over Shutdown: 'You've Called Them Arsonists'

CBS This Morning has a long established history of conducting softball interviews of liberal/Democratic guests, while unleashing on conservative/liberal ones. But on Friday, the morning newscast surprisingly hounded Rep. Nancy Pelosi on the ongoing government shutdown. Obama supporter Gayle King repeatedly pressed Pelosi about "people [who] are just saying...work it out....both sides have to be willing to leave something on the table."

Anthony Mason underlined how "Senator [Harry] Reid called some Republicans anarchists. You've called them arsonists....How do you get a meeting of the minds when people are talking like that?" Norah O'Donnell also wondered about "a scenario...where Democrats would be willing to give on a larger budget deal – the grand bargain coming back, and giving on entitlements, so that we can move forward." [MP3 audio available herevideo below the jump]
O'Donnell led with the Thursday security scare at the Capitol, and raised the subject of the shutdown by asking, "Is it true the Capitol Police are working without pay because of the budget shutdown?" Once the San Francisco liberal confirmed that this was the case, King began pursuing her about her role in the shutdown:
GAYLE KING: ...What do you say to people that say, just work it out, without going into the tit for tat that seems to be going on both sides? What will it take, Madame Speaker, to resolve this issue?

[VIDEO] CBS Hypes Lefty Feminists Denouncing Pay Gap and 'Pale Males' Who Run Media

CBS and ABC on Wednesday trotted out the same tired warning of a "pay gap" between men and women, deeming it "ridiculous" that anyone could possibly disagree with the talking points put forth by feminists such as Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda. CBS This Morning featured the two liberal women, as well as another feminist for a one-sided harangue about females in the workplace. Norah O'Donnell hyped, "Last year women earned 76.5 cents to every dollar a man makes. Why does that still exist?" [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
None of the hosts questioned the legitimacy of the pay gap. Instead, they allowed Steinem to play the victim card, complaining that the reason is "because we are the cheap labor source on which the country is running." Fellow guest Robin Morgan (an arch-leftist author) railed against the "pale males" who run the media.
CBS has been touting this story for years. On April 24, 2007, the network featured Catherine Hill of the American Association of University Women. She lectured, "It suggests that discrimination may still be a very important problem for women in the workplace."
No one on CBS mentioned that Morgan is an extreme liberal who has trashed religion and wrote a sympathetic take on on the "core connection between patriarchal societies and the inevitability of terrorism," The Demon Lover: The Roots of Terrorism.
